The Prisoner!

Last night during Mad Men (which omg idek maybe I can post later when my brain comes back but omg idek), they ran a commercial for The Prisoner, a six-part miniseries based on the 1967 13-episode TV series. I've been alternately excited and eye-rolly about this series since I heard about it (it feels like I've known about it for two years or something at this point!), but the spot certainly captured my attention, if for no other reason than that there's a real sense of honoring the original series while updating it to include modern tech, though they mix that in with tech you could easily find during the '60s.

What got my heart going into fat-burning range was ROVER.

I was concerned that they'd change Rover (iconic as it is), because it might be seen as stupid or silly to a modern audience unfamiliar with Rover's... Roverness. (the story behind how Rover came to be is one of those great show-biz MacGyver stories: "Oh shit this expensive thing we built doesn't work, um, here, have a balloon!"). I was somewhat of a mind to say "When I see Rover, then I'll know if I want to tune in or not."

They showed us Rover, very very briefly, in the 30-second commercial. OMG. You guys. It's Rover. It's Rover, but it's like...HOLY SHIT IT'S ROVER AAAAAA RUN RUN ROVER IS HERE!!

There's an extended trailer that was shown at Comic-Con (9 minutes), if you want to look deeper into the intricacies of how it is and isn't like the original (my take: feels like a perfect blend, with spectacular additions balanced alongside the feel and tone and purpose and message of the original). In the extended trailer, there are some shots that are simply updates of original classic frames that are so strikingly original and yet utterly utterly the same.

November 15, everyone! Be seeing you!
