IMO, the only 100% lock is Mirren for The Queen. 98% Forest Whitaker for Last King of Scotland (O'Toole could spoil). After that, I think it's anybody's game. Supporting Actress probably to Jennifer Hudson, but Breslin is the spoiler. Direction? Everyone says "It's Marty's year", but they *always* say that and it *never* is. Me, I'd vote Greengrass; he doesn't stand a chance, but I'm so happy that he was nominated. I was sure that the Academy members would just lay the DVD aside and think "I heard this was astounding. Too bad I'll never watch it." I think it *does* have a great shot at the editing category, though.

How much would I love Little Miss Sunshine to win Screenplay?

If nothing else - wow, what a great year for movies. I don't think there's an undeserved nomination in the whole list. In fact, there are equally deserving movies that didn't make it - and not because something unworthy did. Just too much good film to go around. Yay!

Oh, you *really* must go watch The Queen.

I can understand your beef, but which film / director would you remove to place Children of Men on the list?

It's a tough call, since I haven't seen Babel or Letter from Iwo Jima yet. I liked Departed and loved Little Miss Sunshine, but thought CoM was a better film than those two -- it left me shaken and had me thinking back on the film for days afterward. And I don't know if I want to see Babel, frankly. I watched the director's 21 Grams back in 2003 and had very mixed feelings about it, and Babel seems to be the same sort of film.
