Why doesn't livejournal cater to my whims?

I started working on this icon last night, and stayed up too late fiddling with it. Got up this morning and *continued* to work on it even though I should be studying. No matter what I do, I can't get it anywhere near 40k.

I think we should be able to buy space for icons which have larger file sizes.

Well, here it is, anyway.



I'm gonna keep playing and see what I can ultimately make of my ideas within the 40k limit.

Meh.

Can you shrink the animated picture part and animate the text in larger chunks?

First of all, the icon is adorable!

Second, though...what if you didn't have separate screens for Life and On and Mars? In other words, after animated!Sam leans over, LIFE ON MARS all appears at once instead of one word at a time?

That won't make a difference, sadly; one frame less won't take it from 80+k to 40.

I got it down to 36k by cutting out frames 1, 10 and 11 and reducing to 63 colours. Makes it a bit grainy, though, I'm afraid:
