My final post of the day: Which are your favorite QI episodes?

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NO IDEA WHAT QI IS:

To watch the first four series of QI (only 12 episodes of 30 minutes each), complete on YouTube, go here--Series A-D.. For the next two series, plus as much of the current series that we're in now, go here--E-F-G.

You won't be sorry. And you will learn about the Acropolis, eventually. But don't go looking for that clip until you've seen a few episodes.

****************************

I'm going to give some friends of mine a few episodes of QI, to introduce them to the show. I'm pretty sure I don't just want to hand them Season One--I want to hook them right off the bat, and the show was still finding its footing at that point (not to say there aren't great episodes of QI in season 1).

If you have a few absolute favorite episodes (for me that's an episode that combines hilarity and fascinating info), can you let me know in comments? If you're not certain which season, or what number episode, I can probably find that info online if you can describe a few of the questions or jokes or who was on the panel.

AHA! QI TRANSCRIPT SITE!

If you can find the ones you love the best, just point me to them

List as many as you like!

Randomly, I love the one with Bill Bailey where he smacks down Alan with something like "I know because of my learning!" It's fairly early on, I think.

I also like the Christmas episode where Alan gets to ask Stephen questions, but that's probably viewed after you've seen a few episodes.

[identity profile] tzikeh.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the Christmas one and the classic "Acropolis" can only be viewed after knowing the show.

I'll look around for the Bill-Bailey-Alan-Davies smackdown with CLUES from your COMMENT! Thanks!

I will be impressed if you actually find it.

AHA. Would help if I got the quote right, instead of confusing it with a lolcat.

Series 2, episode 1.

Stephen
Beetle-fanciers, as you probably know, are called--

Bill
Coleopterists.

Stephen
Very good. Coleopterists. You get . . . I'll give you five points.

Bill
Well, thank you very much.

Alan
Press him on how the hell he knows that.

Sean
Yeah.

Bill
Well, when I was a child, I--

Stephen
In Alan's world, knowing something is a kind of freakish, weird thing. So . . .

Alan
[poises index finger and laughs openly]

Stephen
"Explain how you know something!" Alan would love to know the mystery of this.

Bill
Well, welcome to my world of knowing! The wonderful world of . . . looking up things in books.

omg transcript site. Now it's a whole new ballgame.

There's one in series 3 (again with Bill Bailey) involving a question about the animals on Noah's ark, that never fails to put me on the floor.

[identity profile] tzikeh.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! The one where the answer is eleven, or something? I remember that!

*goes to research*

Good gravy, I need QI icons.

I CHARGE YOU to find me your favorite episodes. :D

[identity profile] penwiper26.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that site saves my butt regularly. And I finally found it; it's 3x01.

Also 3x12 with Dara O'Briain's "I'm not letting that fecker get away with that!".

And 5x04 with Sean Lock.

Oh, and 6x11 with Emma Thompson is great for John Sessions's impression of Alan Rickman and ET's teasing of SF.

Episode 205 has "PUT SMARTIES TUBES ON CATS LEGS/MAKE THEM WALK LIKE A ROBOT".

If "epic" ever makes it into the OED as a modifier for "win", I vote that particular portion of QI 205 is used as the illustration.

That is the most adorable SF icon ever.

Thankyou!
mayhap: magnetic letters reading put Smarties tubes on cats legs make them walk like a robot (put Smarties tubes on cats legs)

Seconding this with appropriate icon!

If one wanted to watch this show-- preferably without torrenting anything-- how might one go about finding it?

[identity profile] tzikeh.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Bits and pieces are on YouTube -- likely entire episodes are up in three parts, put there by any number of fans. I don't have time to do the research, but I'm sure you can find it.

NB: Don't watch anything with the word "Acropolis" in the description until you've seen several other episodes.

AHAHAHAHA -

YouTube account #1: Series A-D..

YouTube account #2: E-F-G.

Enjoy!

[identity profile] tzikeh.livejournal.com 2010-01-28 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay I lied about research time:

Here's someone who has put up all of the last three series. We're in Series 7, or "G" (each season's episodes are [ostensibly] related to the letter of the Series - Series 1=A, etc.).

Should be plenty of fun from there!

AND: Here's someone who, it appears, has the whole series from A-G.

We won't be seeing you around for a while....

6.09! It is Matter/Anti-matter convergence. That one, man. It's sciencey-awesome and, er, comediany-awesome.

Any of the episodes with David Mitchell and Andy Hamilton.

4.12 "Domesticity" with Jo Brand, Jessica Stevenson (from "Spaced") and Phill Jupitus. Jessica Stevenson is lovely and charming, Jo makes several filthy puns, Alan tells the story of breaking his door down and Phill is at his most Phill -- mocking Stephen for being posh ("no one has a kettle like that") and doing a bang-on Hugh Laurie imitation. Bonus points for Stephen doing his posh Etonian accent and jokes about particle physics.

also, 4.6 "Drinking" is rather awesome too -- with Jimmy Car, Phill again and John Sessions. This is the one where they talk about darts and absinthe. I actually think the 4th season in general is possibly the strongest overall.
