I thought it was quite intelligent, though there was nothing in it I hadn't considered / read before - it was a good synthesis of the ongoing discussion. The musical/opera argument will continue to rage, but the definitions will continue to broaden, as well. Being a Sondheim freak in general (and a Sweeney freak in particular), I just thought I'd put it out there for other folks who might enjoy reading about this.
Ow! Ow! (Am now slightly afeared that you will take a meat cleaver to me. Also, I managed to see a production of Sweeney that Christine Baranski was out sick for. The understudy was fine, but still)
Well, I...saw Brian Stokes Mitchell in the lobby of the Kennedy Center! And cried like a baby through the entire second half of Sunday!
I ran into Hal Prince in the lobby during intermission of "And the World Goes Round" while it was still at Whole Theater. I was wearing my Sweeney Todd t-shirt, funnily enough, and he smiled at it. We talked briefly about the show and how much we both loved it. ;)
