Sing! Sing a song!
Apr. 15th, 2005 02:19 pmEvery year at VividCon, we have an unofficial end-of-con party on Sunday night in the hotel swimming pool, wherein we drink and sing and splash around. We harmonize, and goof around, and the acoustics are fabulous, and it's just a hoot and a great way to end a convention so musically oriented. Every year, someone has said, man, we need a songbook, so that people who may not know the lyrics well can sing along! And every year, we've all agreed that yes, we need a songbook, and then the next year's con comes around and we have the same conversation over again.
THIS year, however, we're a bit more organized.
elke_tanzer has agreed to take on the project of laminating lyrics sheets so that they can get in the pool with us. My job is to collect a list of "songs everyone1 knows at least one verse of, that folks can harmonize to" and whip up said lyrics.
What we're looking for here are folk songs, camp songs, rounds, that type of thing. I'll list the ones I can think of off the top of my head, and if you all would be so kind as to comment with others, it would make me the happiest camper in all of sleepaway camp. (Ask your friends - send them over!)
SOME SONGS WHAT WITH THE SINGING THEREOF:
Wild Mountain Thyme (Go, Lassie, Go)
Amazing Grace
Will the Circle Be Unbroken
King of the Road
Rocky Top
Waltzing Matilda
Michael Row the Boat Ashore
Red River Valley
Edelweiss
This Land is Your Land
Rose, Rose (Hey, Ho, Nobody Home)
Where Have All the Flowers Gone
Daisy (Bicycle Built for Two)
for malleable values of "everyone"
