Wilson: Now, Gayer than Ever
May. 9th, 2005 04:46 pmSorry I've fallen down on the House posting recently. I've been doing RL things - traveling to NYC to take in some Broadway shows, and the like. My visit to Broadway, plus
cesperanza's recent post, reminded me that I did want to point and laugh at the "That's our Hitler!" line from last week's episode because of how very very very much a theatre queen Wilson is.
For those who do not understand the reference, it's from The Producers (1968 Mel Brooks movie and currently a Tony-Award-winning mega-hit on Broadway starring and portraying a variety of gay musical theatre people). Producers Bialystock and Bloom are looking to cast someone to play Adolf Hitler in "Springtime for Hitler", a musical they hope will flop on Broadway and garner them big bucks (it's a bit convoluted). At any rate, none of the auditioners are any good, and so in a rage the Nazi who wrote the show jumps up on stage and starts singing a song. Bialystock says to Bloom "That's our Hitler!" - meaning "oh god he's so awful he's perfect".
If you want to hear the song (sung by Brad Oscar) and the line (delivered by Nathan Lane), I have it up at yousendit for a brief period of time.
