How to make friends and influence people

This is a segment of an intro post from a new member to one of the show-centric communities I'm on. I've cut the identifying bits out, but I have not changed any words.

Hello, everyone. I am a new player in the live journal sandbox. I know nothing about how any of this works yet. I am a sculptor, and plan a set of complicated figurines based on the characters from the show--well, only the boys, actually. I invariably hate the female lead on any show. Just habit, I guess. I have a poem, ready to post, but I need to get used to the whole lj thing first. Maybe if I hear from some encouraging folks out there, I'll feel more confident about proceeding.

Gosh, so many things to hate.

(And of course the responses have all been along the lines of "Welcome! Glad to have you!")

I suppose it was time for another reminder of why I generally don't get involved in "fandoms", but rather just hang out in "Fandom".
