WRITE OR DIE!!

"WRITE OR DIE! is a web application that encourages writing by punishing the tendency to avoid writing. Start typing in the box. As long as you keep typing, you're fine, but once you stop typing, you have a grace period of a certain number of seconds, and then there are consequences."

This? Is fucking hilarious. And AWFUL. And hysterical. And CRUEL. And AWESOME. And I might just get my schoolwork done ahead of time with this thing. (ATTN Yuletide and NaNoWriMo and other challenge participants - check it out.)

You choose the chunk of time you want to write for (say, 30 mins). Then you choose a Mode. In Gentle Mode, a certain amount of time after you stop writing, a box will pop up, gently reminding you to continue writing. In Normal Mode, if you persistently avoid writing, you will be played a most unpleasant sound. The sound will stop if and only if you continue to write. In Kamikaze Mode, you must keep writing or your work will unwrite itself.

It's not a text editor, and the only way to save your work is to copy and paste it once your time period is finished. The purpose is to keep you writing without going back and editing the same damn paragraph over and over and over, and to keep you writing without wandering away.
