A panel discussion on gay rights was aired last Tuesday on Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE (Finnish law currently deny gays the right to marry or adopt children). The conservative, virulently anti-gay opinions of the Christian representatives have prompted a mass exodus of Finns from the Lutheran Church of Finland.
By Friday after the panel aired, more than 7,000 Finns had renounced their membership in the Church. As of yesterday, the number has reached 18,000.
"The Bishop of the Diocese of Mikkeli, Seppo Häkkinen, said on Saturday that reduced funding from church taxes (explanation of Finland's "church tax") would be seen, for example, in work among children and the young."
That's right, think of the children! Some of whom are gay! You must help them, so that, once they're adults, you can treat them as second-rate citizens!
"On Saturday, the Bishop said tax losses to the church due to resignations could even top two million euros annually."
Here's the world's tiniest cross for you to climb up on.
