Cat Macros
Feb. 4th, 2007 01:35 pmIt is -17 here. I'm in two layers of socks, two pair of pj pants, a turtleneck and a pullover hoodie sweatshirt, and I'm still freezing.
Time for cocoa with Kahlua.
But the reason I've gathered you all here today is that, while I'm pathetically addicted to cat macros and have been for some time, I don't remember if I've shared any here. If I have, forgive my old-lady memory, but before I sign off to study all day, I thought I'd post my two most recent faves (thank you
elynross for finding the one I couldn't remember the location of!). They're not my *absolute* faves, but these are the ones that have gotten me giggling in most recent memory.
BTW - if you're wondering (as
theshoshanna was) why they're called cat macros, you can find the answer (and moar!) here. They're also called lolcats. I think lolcats is a cute name as well, but since I learned "cat macros" first, I don't know if lolcats is going to take over as my referrer. Then again, as so often happens on the intarwebs, first we see a term and say "Oh Lord is that dumb", then we think "Eh, it's okay", then "hee... hee!" Then it's OMG lolcats YAYZ LOLCATS! So, who knows.
The cat's head being just out of frame makes this one doubly hilarious:

And this one looks like the cat is being dragged into the wardrobe by Tumnus, or something:

If you haven't seen these before and want to see MOAR, here are two archives to get your started:
http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/cats/cats.htm
http://www.icanhascheezburger.com/
I find that archives are better than the lj community, because for every one funny macro in the community you have to wade through about fifty really stupid ones. If you go traipsing through these archives, you should know some of the phrases that took on lives of their own in the early days of cat macros, so that some of the tweaked versions are more humorous:
"Oh, I see what you did there"
"Oh hi, I upgraded your RAM"
"Do not want!" (comes from a bad English=Chinese=English translation from Revenge of the Sith...)
"Jesus Christ it's a lion! Get in the car!" (which started elsewhere as a separate entity and subsequently became part of the cat macro world)
"We are not amused"
"The internet is serious business"
"This is a serious thread"
"It's a trap!" (yes, the classic Admiral Ackbar line from Jedi)
"I'm in ur base killin ur doods" (again, its own thing which became part of the cat macro world)
And, of course, the classic work-environment inspirational poster.
There's a rather exhaustive collection here: http://www.acc.umu.se/~zqad/cats/index.html - but I post this with the caveat that a few of them are offensive and/or disturbing.
Oh, oh okay, I know I said two, but I have to share one MOAR:
