This past weekend, [livejournal.com profile] shrift and I (and four non lj-ers) went to see Thom Pain (based on nothing), put on by Theater Wit. The play was written by Will Eno, garnering him a Pulitzer nomination; The New York Times called the play "Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation". The production is directed by one of my best friends, Jeremy Wechsler, and stars my friend Lance Baker. It is seventy minutes of emotional and intellectual rapture, and I highly recommend it for anyone who has twenty bucks and a free evening.

(If you think I might be a little biased *g*, you can check out the reviews at The Chicago Sun-Times or the Chicago Reader.)

It plays Thursdays through Sundays, but it's only running until April 14, so hit the Theater Wit website now!

I LOVE that play. Love it. Saw it twice when it was here in Seattle.

While I cannot endorse the following comment due to my personal opinion of Beckett being a very high one, I will note that when I saw it, I heard one patron remark to another afterward, "That was like Beckett, only interesting."

LOL! I love Beckett too, so I'm with you on that one. This person probably had never seen a good *production* of Beckett, because it's so easy to do badly. I had the great good fortune of seeing the Gate Theatre's production, and it was one of *those* nights at the theater. You know what I mean.

I do know what you mean, because I saw it too! :) (Only we got there a couple minutes late because I'm retarded, so we had to watch the first act from not-actually-our-seats and it was less than ideal, but it was still awesome, and the second act was even more awesome.) (I think I like the second act better anyway, in fact.)

? Second act? It's a one-act play. *confused*

Waiting for Godot has had two acts for as long as I've known it. . . are we thinking of different Beckett plays, then?

Hey-- Lance Baker here-- thanks for the mention-- what is this LiveJournal thingy? I feel like I'm walking into a dark forest-- lots of keywords, lists, strange names, oh my. I'd say hello but y'all seem to like the anonymity so I'll just follow up your nice post by saying that anyone interested in the show can pop over to www.lancebaker.vox.com for all the latest in ticket deals and whatnot-- twenty bucks is a lot, I know, but we can work something out. Thanks for letting me double-plug. Back to doing what you were doing.
