tzikeh: (yuletide - overlords - fanfiction - blue)

Every year, I see posts from people who have never participated in Yuletide: The Obscure Fandom Secret Santa Project because they thought it was only for slashers (e.g."OMG I thought Yuletide was just slash stories - but now that I know it's not, I'm going to play next year!"). And every year, I think, man, we need to spread the word. So long as the desired fandom is rare, it qualifies!

I'm relatively certain that most people who read my livejournal know that Yuletide is NOT slash-only, but I thought I'd put it out here to start a "you tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on, and so on" post. Let's see if we can't spread the word throughout lj-dom. Sure, lots of you here have friendslists similar to mine; but lots of you don't. So, if you feel like spreading the word, please post the info in your lj, and ask others to pass it on, if they'd like to! It's that whole Six Degrees thing -- I bet if I jump in any direction off my flist, and then in any direction off that person's flist, I'll run into hundreds of fans I've never heard of. So get the word out! Spread the joy! Go tell it on the mountain 'n' stuff!

YULETIDE IS GEN, HET, SLASH, RPF, RPS... YULETIDE IS LOVE!

OMG YULETIDE! It is ridiculously fun and awesome and so insane, but the insane part isn't so bad when there's over a THOUSAND other people also collectively freaking out.

One caveat about Mary's excellent post, though: the comments are referring to Yuletide 2006. I hope newbies read the post! But maybe skip the comments, and defer to [livejournal.com profile] yuletide_admin and the FAQ for the latest info.

P.S.

That is a very good point, and with the mods' permission, I've deleted the now-irrelevant comments correcting dates for last year, etc. What's left is still applicable for 2007, or at least shouldn't confuse people, I hope.

But yes, always stick with the FAQ and the admin community for new info and announcements!

I've never done Yuletide before, but I decided when I read some of the stories last Christmas (which included a couple of the greatest fics ever, OMG!) that I would definitely do it this year. And now I'm all eagerly excited about it, looking at the list of nominated fandoms and trying to whittle down what I should offer to write, and YAY! I'm psyched by the possibility of getting to put something together that I would never otherwise sit down and write. It makes me bounce inside.

That is so true. That last week, when there's a yuletide freakout chatroom, is the most fun you can have while simultaneously wondering why you EVER volunteered to do this damned thing in the first place.

The leaves are turning, the air is cooling, and it's time to think about FREAKING THE FUCK OUT OVER YULETIDE!

Oh I am *SO* excited you're going to join the insanity this year. It really is just the very best thing ever.
