"Theatre-going New York area RPS slash fanfic devotees are about to be some very happy women. In previews starting July 28th and opening August 7th, it's "Matt and Ben", a new play opening Off-Off-Broadway--in fact, at a theatre in an old public school--about none other than Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and their relationship--er, friendship--back in the lean years before they became A-list stars."

Huh. I'm gonna be honest here. I don't get real person fiction (not just slash, but any kind).

Fictional characters, even with an established backstory or history in canon, do not have lives outside of what is established for them by a writer. Everything they do, say, think, or feel is made up by someone...whether that be a writer for a show or movie, or a fanfic writer on a home computer. Real people on the other hand *do* have lives that exist independent of the thoughts and creative notions of others. To assign them thoughts, feelings, relationships, and actions that aren't theirs just strikes me as...I dunno...kinda rude. Like their actual lives aren't "good enough".

Maybe there's something I'm missing here.

Dude - I'm with you on RPS - do not get it. But the fact that RPS is now off-Broadway?

So, so much a combo of my two passions I didn't need.

I'm a little confused about actor slash and categories. There is a Dobby/Gollum vid I was thinking about doing as soon as the LOTR dvds come out. It wouldn't be at all about the characters. It would be about the digital actors who play the characters but they aren't real people. Well, not really real people. Um, where does that go? Or are digital characters new enough that it doesn't have a category?

We live in strange times. :-) Personally I'd put such a thing in the same category as fictional characters since digital characters do not (as far as I'm aware) have thoughts, feelings, and lives independent of what others create for them.

It does sort of feel like it should have it's own category though, doesn't it?
