Date: 2009-03-17 02:03 pm (UTC)We may be returning to our roots this year-- which is to say, we might have comfy lodgings in someone's house as opposed to a conference room at the University.
You'd still be welcome, of course. :-)
And cover copy should be going into the LJ soon!

Date: 2009-03-17 02:11 pm (UTC)You know what they should've done? Changed it to just "SF Channel". It keeps the meaning for their core, yet allows them to expand into new spaces with new branding. The first time I heard this, I thought it was a joke. It just sounds so... stupid.

Date: 2009-03-17 02:21 pm (UTC)The thing is, from this article right here: http://www.jackmyers.com/commentary/lunch-at-michaels/16847961.html - it draws such a nasty picture that the added disrespect to one of sci-fi's great supporters is only the tip of the ice berg. Dave Howe doesn't *get* SF and fandom. He looks at it from the outside and kind of gibbers at it, poking it with sticks, to see how much money he can make.

Date: 2009-03-17 08:01 pm (UTC)SyFyPortal sold the name last month.
But the thing about this is that it was a SF site for SF fans. We already knew what it was, and it was a bit silly. Outsiders will look at Syfy and see venereal disease. And since the channel has been raping SF for years, part of me really hopes they tank big time with this.
