While trying to do part of my job as a member of the VividCon ConCom, I got an "Error: Disk Full" message. Which concerned me, because the dvd I was trying to burn was a blank one - how could it be full?

Well.

My job, should I choose to accept it (and since I've burned four dvds already, I think I've chosen) is as follows:

1) Download all the vids for this particular show (let's call it "Narrative") which vidders have uploaded through the handy-dandy VividCon upload form.
2) Import to Final Cut Pro any vids for the Narrative show which we're showing that I have in my collection of some of the past 20 years of vidding.
3) Split any .mov files into .m2v and aif/ac3/wav files (also [livejournal.com profile] killabeez's job, as my Personal Jesus)
4) Export from Final Cut pro all vids into file formats DVD Studio Pro can read
5) Create dvd layout for Narrative Show in DVDSP
6) Build and test bitrate throughput for vids (if we ping over 9.8, start over from #3)
7) Burn dvd for Narrative Show
8) Return to #1, create new show (repeat 10 times)

We here at VividCon are putting on quite the production for you attending folks - I have a 120 GB hard drive and... it's full. I have to start backing things up and deleting them if I want to move forward.

We are showing 160 vids in 10 themed shows, plus premieres and nearly new, plus another 58 vids in our Friday night dance party, Club Vivid.

One hundred and sixty vids. On my hard drive. at full-screen, full-res.

Yeah, no freaking suprise it's full!

:goes to back up Ensemble show:

My goodness. I knew you were doing a lot of work, but that's just...

Can we buy you another hard drive or something?

LOL - that's totally unnecessary. I just have to back up as I go - put files on DVD and then delete them. It's just ... you know, time-consuming work.

Well, for the longest time, I was nursing my growing addiction to songvids with a 4GB hard drive. When I got a CD burner to work with that old computer, I was a much happier person, but for months, I'd kept Win95 running with about 50KB free. Thank heavens I was mostly a one-fandom gal at that point...

I've now got a much faster CPU, with a 30GB drive with only about 3GB free, and I not only need to buy another hard drive, but more memory. WinXP is a big eater.

:-)

Thank you so much for all of your hard work. I was serious about buying you a drink... anytime. I can't hardly wait for VividCon!!!

Well, it's appreciated, if that's any consolation.

Just focus on the cheese curds and you'll be fine.

Wow... that's alot of vid!! :-)

Why do I get the feeling my brain is going to be completely fried by Sunday evening? And I'm just gonna ~watch~ the things! :-)

Oh - just out of curiousity, where's the best place to get DVD media? I got talked into buying a DVD-R, but haven't picked up any media yet...
