I cannot stop thinking about this show. I've watched the pilot um... a lot. And it's on Hulu. And my TiVo. And my desktop. And I've been all over the USA show site. And um... I need to do schoolwork and stuff (you know how it goes).
There's a line somewhere from a thing somewhere (I can't tell you all the sites I've visited in the last 24 hours) that says "Peter's conflict isn't how much he hates Neal, it's how much he likes him." And I'm like YES. YES IT IS. Neal isn't stupid; Peter isn't stupid; they have a mutual admiration society going on. And nothing the characters do or say is ridiculously "too clever," but just perfect for what feel like wholly formed characters right out of the gate. "How many of you went to Harvard?!... Don't... raise your hands. Just, don't." Neal instantly able to do the big math! "You look like a cartoon."
And I love that Elizabeth meets Neal and genuinely wanted to meet Neal, and Neal is showing Elizabeth the counterfeiter's initials on the Spanish bond! She calls him her "rival," but not in a bad way. Looks like those two are going to get along Just. Fine.
And Neal and Peter chatting in the car about Peter's anniversary plans and BRAINSTORMING?! And Peter getting Neal's help to use his new connections to treat Elizabeth for their anniversary? OMG I LOVE THIS SHOW.
And hi characters of color who have non-clichéd roles (Hi, Dihann Carroll)! Hi lesbians who function under "We Don't Ask, We Don't Care."
"Did you just lie to a priest?" "Do you think Diana's attractive?" "Sure." "Then we're good."
Peter. Wears. Braces. BRACES.
(I am keeping my eyes on sources for the next episode. Ahem.)
