If someone is against OTW or AO3, and they voice that opinion, that doesn't make them an asshole. If they're vehemently opposed to what OTW is, then that's how they feel, and that's fine. Someone who makes an argument based on fact, personal philosophy, or both--that's what makes horse races.
Assholes make ad hominem attacks; bitch, whine, and moan about something that they've been shown is patently false; spread rumors to stir shit up; hate entire endeavors and spout off about the thing itself because they don't like one or more of the people who are making it happen; on and on and on.
You can spot an asshole because the asshole is acting like an asshole. It's pretty clear-cut.
