I don't hate your #1 suggestion at all...it's harsh, but perhaps it would be for the best. Maybe the first 1000 to sign up, or the first 350 on any of three days...with no signing up another person. I dunno.
With all the yuletide madness fics, the whole process is ginormous. I applaud the mads for even taking on such a project, and have no quibble with whatever decisions they make. It's a shame there's such an anti-OTW culture of lies and misinformation out there.
