Neal never graduated from high school. And Peter, who knew *everything* about Neal while chasing him, did not know this. (At least, his facial expression in reaction to Neal's revelation says so.)

I could be totally misinterpreting, but that sounded like Peter had reason to think Neal actually had graduated valedictorian from somewhere, not that he'd never looked into it (which I'd find hard to believe). I guess they really like this Great Expectations thing they've got going.

I read Peter's response as more of a "You? Mr. I-Can-Do-Anything? You weren't Valedictorian?" But I can see your version too.

No, and I can totally see yours. It would seem odd (said the girl who knows bupkiss about the FBI) for Peter not to have looked into Neal's educational background at all, but that's also not a piece of information most people would bother committing to memory anyway, and he does so love to tweak Neal at every opportunity.

Other spoilers have indicated to me that Peter does not know much about Neal's early life. It seems odd to me that he wouldn't have researched that - he knew his shoe size, after all - so anything he could dig up on him he probably would. It makes me wonder if Neal has fudged his records so that stuff before he turned eighteen is gone.
