yes, casual friends is probably a good way to put it and also good colleagues... Cumberbatch is sort of on the same trajectory as DT careerwise (though his parents are actors so he grew up in the biz but he still went to drama school, though he probably could have gotten away without it since he grew up steeped in it), he's about 5 years younger and seems to have found his HIT at about the same age DT was when he started DW... and he's also primarily a stage actor. I don't know that they've ever done anything together though.
