In order to finish grad school, I need far more money than I currently have (my loan provider has become... problematic). So I am selling pretty much everything I can part with that's worth any money.

It breaks my heart, but I can part with my 20-volume OED. I figure, one day, when I have a decent job, I can buy another set, but right now I need the money pretty badly. You can get new sets for $995 at Amazon.com, Powells, Barnes & Noble, and a bunch of other places I've searched. Used versions generally go for around $770, that I can find. (The one version that says "new for $500" is a subscription to the online OED.) I'm offering mine for $650. It is in excellent condition; each volume still has its dust cover, and under the dust covers are the beautiful, dark, rich blue bindings with volume information embossed in gold on the spines.

Basically, it's word porn, and I know you guys love word porn.

The entire set weighs 180 pounds, so you'll need a car, and some boxes (and probably bubble wrap) to transport it. I say "Chicago-area" because shipping it would cost more than double what I'm asking for it, but if you're willing to pay, well, I won't say no.

If anyone is interested, just post here. I'd also be grateful if you would ask local friends you think might be interested, even if you're not--and you can post here for them.

I know this is a big ol' first-world problem, but man, sometimes life just *sucks*.
