It occurs to me that I've been spending far more time on tumblr than on lj or dw recently. That's likely to swing back in the near future, but I see on my flist/dwircle (I hate that term) that some of you are starting to jump on tumblr. So, if you want to find me, here I am:

So, basically, what you'd find here, except it's often there instead.

The thing to know about tumblr is that it moves much, much faster than lj -- people post eight, nine, ten times a day. So if you're just looking at one tumblr (e.g. mine), you might see like, five posts in a row about basically the same thing, because that's how conversations are carried out on tumblr. It's unwieldy, but that's how fans have decided to use it.

(Tumblr skews younger (MUCH, MUCH YOUNGER), so there are occasional "please stop making me cry with your ignorance" posts, but by and large it's a good time.)

I haven't had the energy to try tumblr -- I know it skews younger, I have the sense that it's image-heavy and not so text-focused, and I just...haven't had the wherewithal to try yet another social network! I suppose if it's where everyone winds up, I'll go there too, eventually, but I like journal-land.

I don't know why, exactly, but Tumblr feels so awkward to me. The margins are always too big, the text usually to small, there's not enough connective tissue... it all feels very discombobulated to me.

Next I'll be yelling at the kids to keep their Twitter off my lawn.

Tumblr confuses the hell out of me and I really couldn't tell you why. Having a conversation seems to be next to impossible, and it seems to be all about pictures which I am... not. And I just do not get the point of reblogging. Sort of at all. I have a couple of tumblrs in my RSS reader, but beyond that I just... I don't get it.

It makes me feel old and like a bit of a luddite, honestly.
