But if we don't make noise, the terrorists win thieves get away with it, which is just crazy-making.

Fanflix.com has given awards to vids which contain mostly stolen edits.

Read about it here.

Write to the website owners at webmaster@fanflix.com

This may seem stupid and small and whiny and not worth your time - but hard work done for your enjoyment is being passed off as belonging to people who didn't do it, and it's happening in the community where you have made friends and spend at least some of your daily life. We are all we have. Take a moment out of your day and read up on it and write to the webmaster.

Thank you all.

Hm. I need some kind of icon for this sort of post. Furious yet fannish. Will ponder.

Please read this livejournal entry: http://www.livejournal.com/users/elke_tanzer/267822.html.

You have given awards to vidders whose work is not their own - they have stolen the vast majority of their vids from other vidders. I don't mean they took the individual clips from the shows from one vid and put them in another; I mean they took the work that the other vidder did (edits, filters, special effects, juxtapositions, etc.) and passed it off as their own. And your site rewarded them for it.

The two vidders who have submitted plagiarised vids and won awards for them are Desiree and JAC Creations.

Please do not promote thievery on your website. The fannish vidding community is becoming more and more enraged by this behavior as word of it spreads. You are doing a great disservice to the real vidders who put hours and hours of creativity and skill into their work, only to have it ripped off and then see the thieves gain acceptance and praise for work that is not their own.

You can see a clip-by-clip comparison made by an original vidder here, and you can see Desiree's responses to the accusations as well. She *admits* she stole the work, and then refuses to remove it. And you gave her an award.

Please address this -- fandom has to be its own arbiter and police force. Don't encourage stealing in this community.

Thank you,
tzikeh

Let us know if you ever hear from the FanFlix webmaster. I didn't, and I know others never did, either. Sigh.

Oh, and isn't it www.fanflix.*com*, not .net?

Argh, yeah, it is. I'll fix it.

So far nothing.

Sigh.

I haven't heard anything back from FanFlix, either, although I have uncovered more details which bring the victim vidders total to five and definitely includes PotC in the fandoms-affected list, and I have been having an exchange with Desiree in the comments thread of Ashinae's huge post.
