First of all, the yuletide assignments have gone out, and all I can say to that is that the panic is on - what is the sound of 315 fans screaming?

Listen closely; I think you can hear it.

Second (and this has nothing to do with the yuletide thing except that I remembered it by way of a discussion about writing fanfiction) - here is an essay about fanfiction, the fanfiction community's attitudes, and other interesting thoughts that I hadn't re-read in a while. Always something to come back to and think about in fandom, isn't there?

Hear it?? It's deafening! It sounds like it's right in the room with me!

Oh, wait, it IS me.

Screaming? Everybody I know is having so much fun with their assignments that it *almost* makes me wish I'd signed up. ("Almost" because ... writing new characters scary! writing to other people's specifications even scarier! both together ... eeek. *hiding under bed*) But you guys have definitely done a good fannish thing, with this. I'm going to love listening to everybody talk about the writing, and the waiting.

Well, screaming in the "what have I gotten myself into" way - but you don't write to other people's specs - just the pairing they choose and maybe something simple like "Don't kill them, please".

Screaming? Nope!

Got my assignment. Said, "Huh. I can do that."

Read the notes. Suddenly got a gleam in my eye.

Now I'm doing the dance of "I'M GOIN' WOOBIE-WHOMPIN'!"

Heh heh.

M'own damn fault for saying "Sure, I can write that! I give good [those characters]."

HEE!

Well, there's good screaming, too. like "I'M GOIN' WOOBIE-WHOMPIN!"

That kind, too.

I think it's actually the whole act of writing a story for a particular person that scares me. (I don't write birthday stories, either.) There's way too much room to disappoint the person you're trying to please. Someday I'll probably try it, just not this time.

I'm cackling. Evilly. It's not often I get to traumatize a large segment of a certain fandom.

And I'm sure tons of people have said this in various different ways, but you and shalott rock hard. You're probably crazy, but you rock.

Hee. We're definitely crazy. I don't know how this sort of thing happens, but shalott comes up with these ... ideas ... like - hey, wanna help me create a con for vids? And I go - sure! Or hey - wanna help me run a huge Secret Santa project right at the same time the VividCon DVD discussions are beginning? And I go - sure!

So who's more foolish - the fool, or the fool who follows him?

I think shalott drugs my soup or something.

It's only 314. I still haven't got mine.
