They remind me of Professor Umbridge, when she's got that sickeningly sweet attitude as she takes away Harry's Quidditch playing for life. It's that same attitude in "comments will not be necessary."
I think she must be their role model. High Inquisitor of Fandom.
Not quite: the Supreme Court reversed a court of appeals decision striking down COPA on the ground that it unconstitutionally applied local community standards to the inherently non-local internet, and sent it back to the court of appeals to hear other arguments about COPA's constitutionality. The court of appeals found COPA unconstitutional on other grounds, and the Supreme Court recently agreed to hear the government's appeal; the case will be argued in about a month, and my bet is that the Court will uphold the court of appeals, but it's by no means a done deal. Even so, it's highly unlikely that COPA applies to fan fiction -- and none of this is to suggest that these guys aren't total assholes.
you know, now that I've actually dropped by their journal and had a look, I'm with you. They can confuse themselves without any assistance from me or you.
why is it that I'm no longer surprised by this crap though, that's mostly what I'd like to know. I'm supposed to be an optimist, not a cynical bitch.
Just a thought, but has anyone thought to report this insanity to LiveJournal staffers? Not sure if they'd actually kick them off, but it might be worth a shot.
I officially complained to LiveJournal. COPPA or not, threatening and intimidation, lying and hiding anonymously, all seem to me to be reasons to complain.
I complained. They told me not to read it. Thanks a whole lot, folks. Their logic is fandom unscrupulous isn't naming "REAL" names, therefore, it isn't intimidation. Well, there are real people behind them. Makes me seriously considering getting the hell out of dodge. Care to recommend other blogs?
