I sit here wondering... a grass-roots movement for scheduling certain showings for people who will not talk during the film wouldn't be a stupid idea, would it?

I had the opposite experience at the IMAX showing -- it was nothing but hardcore fans, and everyone was extremely loud, but you knew that going in. I ended up loving the whole experience, but it made a difference that absolutely everyone in attendance had signed up to have major boisterous fun.

That's an entirely different kind of showing, yeah. If *everyone* there has that feeling going in, that can be a blast too. But if 90% of the audience paid their money to enjoy the film quietly, not so much.
