If I were 17? I would be SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF.

As it stands, I'm looking at the preview thinking, "If this were a vid, I'd be wondering what in the hell the vidder was hearing for the middle part of it. SLOW DOWN! Jesus! Listen to your song choice! Have *some* rhythmic sense..."

so ok, the inner 17-year-old is screaming her head off. shut up.

Also - Patrick Wilson is Raoul! Go Patrick!

ETA: Whoa - the supporting cast... Miranda Richardson, Simon Callow, Ciarán Hinds...

I saw the preview for this when I went to see Michael Moore's Farenheit 9/11 the other night, and...I don't know if the crowd was just Politically-Holier-Than-Thou-Musical-Goers or what, but there was a really bizarre giggling reaction to the trailer (...not so for the preview for the movie about Che Guevara, let me just say *g*).

Personally? I'm looking forward to seeing Phantom, but I'm insanely glad I'm not involved in that fandom, because I'm certain it's going insane right around now. :)

There's a *huge* (well, you know what I mean: relatively speaking) fandom...most of whom seem to be busily involved in debating whether Michael Crawford was robbed in not being cast as the Phantom *g*

My God, so they did it at last. Here speaks someone who will admit to seeing Michael Crawford in Phantom 7 , or was it 8? times, in 3 different cities. And I wrote fanfiction too. It was all a long time ago. I can hardly believe the fandom is still alive. I don't think I really want to know about it.

Who is Gerard Butler? Can he sing?

That was the most rhythimically challenged vid I've seen in a long, long time. Either that or my quicktime synch was off.

I haven't seen it online yet, but it seemed to be okay in the theatre.

And I have *no* idea who Gerard Butler is, but I'm guessing he's not just a pretty face. LOL *g*

PtO was my first fandom, the one that got me to my first MediaWest back in '90 where the fandom had quite a sizeable following. It's not nearly as big now as it was then, but it's still around.

As for Crawford deserving the role, there was a time when I would have thought so. His rendition of Point of No Return was enough to turn your panties inside out. *g* But the man hasn't been able to commit to a project lately. He signs on, then he doesn't finish out his contracts. And he had some public-like bad words for Lloyd Weber (yeah, who hasn't) when he was touring with the Music of ALW in the early 90's (on top of no-showing for performances without much notice, not that I'm still bitter about that one) that caused some bad blood. Of course he wasn't going to be cast. I've liked what I've seen of Butler so far. He's going to bring that dark brooding to Erik that I love to see depicted more often.

so ok, the inner 17-year-old is screaming her head off. shut up.

The fandom has been screaming for this movie for more than a decade. It's been screenplayed and re-screenplayed, cast and re-cast, messed with, sued over and on so many times, that I'm not going to believe it until I'm sitting in the theater with the big WB logo up on the screen and the first clashing brass playing over the speakers. Then I will join you in the squealing. Okay, so I have been a litte already *G*

Dude, no kidding, watching that thing even on a teeny little Quicktime window gave me le headache.

Signed, I Have Been Spoiled By Good Vids

I liked the fast cuts at the beginning, but you're right about the middle section -- it slows down far later than it should, though it ends well.

Can't wait to see this!
