This show, man. This show. For the first 30 minutes or so, I felt that the editing was kinda off-kilter, with these long pauses between lines of dialog where there just wouldn't naturally be any, especially in the scenes with Ben and Geddes. Though I very much liked Justin coming at Ben from behind Management's curtain. But THEN! Okay, they totally fooled me. I didn't know if the mask-making had taken place or not. The mask-making scene was a bit Brazil, and in the way where I felt kinda like, okay, you've seen Brazil, we get it - but then it went in its own direction and really upset me. When Geddes sat down to listen to Church of the Air, I thought, either this is another misdirection, or he did, in fact, make a mask. When the package arrived for Justin, I knew, and was extremely, extremely freaked out, but only with a vague dread, because I didn't know what it meant.

When Justin held up the mask and it vacuum-sealed itself to his face, that was upsetting enough. When it let him see through Ben's eyes, my friend Kim and I both started in our seats and made "oh no, *this* is bad" noises. And when Ben held up that mirror, it not only let Justin see his face, but what did Ben see? He dropped it, so he must have been startled by his reflection... what did he see in his own face? And did Justin drop the mask because Ben dropped the mirror? And er... the mask bleeding was really fucking creepy.

So Geddes' little monologue about adding his own ingredients to the Plaster of Genoa mixture takes on a whole new *eeee*, doesn't it. And what a damned shame that Ben broke Hack's mask... that could have been very useful. (It also explains how Gramma could see, yet have no eyes - she coud see what her son saw by using the mask.)

Also - Sofie's been the one with the power all along? This makes a good deal of sense, if you think about how all of the supernatural powers on this show stem from the birth-line of Good and Evil. None of the carnies have supernatural powers except Sofie and Ben, and I'm still not sure we're not supposed to believe they are half-brother and half-sister. If the Usher has the tree tattoo, and Justin has to kill Hack to become the new Usher, then Hack is the old Usher, therefore has the tree tattoo, therefore is the man who raped Apollonia. Of course, this leads me to believe that Justin and Iris have the same father (Management) but *not* the same mother. The boy children inherit the lineage of the battle, the girl children... something with ESP or mindreading or ... something. If we go with Iris saying that she always knows what Justin needs even when he doesn't himself and we take that to its logical conclusion... hm. Or maybe I'm overthinking. And if Justin and Iris are vaguely incestuous, well, why not Ben and Sofie!

Okay, now for speculation on What's Going to Happen.

Go away if you didn't watch the preview for next week.

Really.

Stop reading now if you didn't watch the preview.

Still here?

Okay.

I think Tommy Dolan is going to take the fall for Iris' arson and felony murders. First of all, Iris did not write out the confession - Tommy took it down as dictation. One assumes, therefore, he wrote everything exactly as she said it, as in "I stood there with the match in my hand... the match burned my fingers..." etc. It's all in his handwriting. And we know Justin can make words appear when the writer didn't write them, from last season's insane asylum mini-arc. The doctor who interviewed him in the rubber room was rather suprised to find he'd written things down that he didn't recall writing, yeah? So I think Tommy Dolan's signature is going to appear on that confession. For a while I was concerned Iris was done for, but now I think? Not so much. Tommy, however, is just another sacrificial lamb. Bye, Tommy!

If I'm wrong, well, it won't be the first time, with this show.

I was wondering the other day if Iris would even be in this mess if she was sane had simply accepted Tommy's kiss in the car. Even stringing him along with "courtship" might have kept him distracted.

In the immortal words of Mr. Byob:

"This mask lets you be Ben Hawkins for fifteen minutes ...then it drops you off on side of the New Jersey Turnpike."
