For those who would like to watch in the proper order, and not the Fucked-Up FOX order, here is the production order. Much more sense to be had in character progression this way (you can go to http://www.tvtome.com/House/eplist.html for clickable episode descriptions and other info):

Pilot (aired 1st)
Occam's Razor (aired 3rd)
The Socratic Method (aired 6th)
Maternity (aired 4th)
Paternity (aired 2nd)
Damned if You Do (aired 5th)
Fidelity (aired 7th)
Poison (aired 8th)
Sports Medicine (aired 12th)
DNR (aired 9th)
Histories (aired 10th)
Detox (aired 11th)

A few recs for fanfiction I've enjoyed thus far:

Surcease, by [livejournal.com profile] marzilla. Missing scene from Detox. Exactly what I needed. ;)

Maryland, by [livejournal.com profile] astolat. Wonderful, subtle, suspenseful without too much desperation.

Tumor by [livejournal.com profile] always_winter. Terrific voices and no, nobody has cancer. :-D

Euphoria, by [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke. Begun before Detox, abandoned after, posted anyway. ;) Hilarious.

Pathogenesis and Intervention, by [livejournal.com profile] astolat. Stand-alone story, complete. Just outstanding.

The History of the World by [livejournal.com profile] always_winter. A chronicle of the relationship, with James' marriages as demarcation.

And I don't usually recommend stories that aren't complete, but I am enjoying reading "Safe from Harm", currently on part 5 of ? (God, I hate that convention). It's by [livejournal.com profile] mayatawi and can be found at [livejournal.com profile] housefic by scrolling back to part 1 - I think it's only one page-skip away.

If you have seen/read any other stories on par with these and can rec them to me, I'd be much obliged!

I love all of these, and I also highly recommend Blow the Candles Out by Syal.

I envision a watching the episodes in their proper order marathon in my future.

yeah, I'm thinking there's going to a right-order viewing for me soon too.

Will read Blow the Candles Out - thanks!

To which you will invite me, yes? :-)

Thanks for the recs... several stories I hadn't seen.

Oh, and....

...finished Transmet last night. Holy shit. I'm quite seriously pondering rereading the whole thing immediately.

:D Yeah, it's a "holy shit" kind of book.

And yes, when I do the House marathon, I'll invite everyone. We'll have cake!

Yeah, it's a "holy shit" kind of book.

It really, really, really is. Dude.

Am in a huge comics mode at the moment. Need to borrow From Hell and V is for Vendetta next, and I'm hitting Tara up for Hellblazer (still waiting on Sin City from Dave, too, 'cause he's getting the collections).

What else do you have (besides Cerebus, which I don't think I'm going to do) that I should read? I must take advantage of the library of Jessica while I still can!

Also, are you doing the Oscars on Sunday?

I'm going to be at Escapade on Sunday, so no Oscars here, for me.

Um... I have the first 12 issues of Promethea, which are gorgeous to look at and interesting enough if not supremely compelling, I have Persepolis, and Batman Year One, which is worth reading, and... hm... do I have Kingdom Come, or ... I think Tara has that. As for Cerebus, yeah, you're probably not going to make it all the way through, but then the first five collections are really the best of the lot (and *very* worth reading), so you could just read some of it.

When I get back from the con, we can do a swap of Transmet and my Blackadder DVDs for the other stuff!

Me too, me too! I missed the first 6 or seven episodes, at least.

Hell, I'll BRING the cake!

YAAAAAY!!! We will totally do something in March or early April, then, on a weekend so Hub can take the kid.

YAHOO!

We're on vacation the 1st weekend of April, but otherwise we're around. Hub will probably demand take-home episodes as compensation, though.

Right, I'll cave. *g* I can't hear anything else over the squeals about the slash so I'll give this a try again. Though if the medicine remains as bad as it was in the 1st episode it'll have to be the slashiest thing in slashworld to make me download more than one episode. Thanks for the links to the proper order.

Eh - if you hate the medicine, ignore it. Most of us aren't in it for factual representation of illness anyway. ;)

Trivial Pursuits (http://www.livejournal.com/community/housefic/35602.html?#cutid1). I found it to be spot on and perfect.

Wow. Is FOX constitutionally unable to show eps in the intended order, or is this a special trick that they pull only on shows that my friends like?

Either way, I boggle.

Me again. You asked for story recs; I just ran across Miriam Heddy's Name That Tune, which I thought was excellent. She has a particular gift for sex that's simultaneously awkward and hot, and this story is no exception.

Thank you very much for that.
I'd never really worked out the production numbers thing on TVTome, but it makes so much sense now.
I'll have to rewatch House again, now, having got halfway through the season this week on DVD order.
