Yesterday, on a whim, I stopped into Bennison's Bakery up in Evanston. And there, among the happy smiley-face cookies, was this cookie:

The eyebrows reminded me of all the fun I have reading bash.org, because the face reminds me of the first time I saw the angry emoticon >:( (it was at bash.org). And I had to get it for my room mate [livejournal.com profile] merryish, because she was having a bit of a vidding day. We took pictures of the cookie, and she made herself this icon, and then we ate it. MMMM, tasty, tasty anger.

Oh my god. When she said "a bakery in Evanston," I thought, "Maybe it's Bennison's ... nah. Bennison's probably isn't even there any more. It's probably gone the way of Yesterday's."

Oh. Raisin brioches in the morning. Woe.

Do I want to know when you were at NU, or is the answer just going to make me feel oooooold? (Medill, '86.)

OK, that's not too bad. Sometimes I learn how old people are, and I feel like a Dirty Old Fan.

That is a brilliant icon *g*

I remember a weekend where my friends and I practically lived on Bennison's, ah joy. I have to find something comparable in Oak Park. Haven't found that yet.

I don't know of anywhere in Oak Park, but there's a really good bakery in Forest Park. On Madison. Can't think of the name, of course.

It's not Bennison's, because what is, really? But it's pretty good.

Thanks!

A bud of mine used to live immediately across the street from Bennison's (over Gigio's Pizza). She said that the smells from the bakery were wicked to wake up to at 4 a.m. long before they ever opened! I used to live over on Oak just west of there for 13 years!
