While best known for Columbo, he showed such magnificent comic range in The Princess Bride, Murder by Death, The Great Race It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World, and The In-Laws. But he also had beautiful subtle depths: see A Woman Under the Influence, Husbands, and the exquisite Wings of Desire. Each of those films is a gem, so I can be happy with that.

He was also a very talented artist. He worked in charcoals. The official site, with his gallery, is under a heavy load right now (understandably). But here's a self-portrait of how he viewed Columbo (from this site):

Sigh. He had a great career, but I wish for "just one more thing."

New York Conservative Party Chair believes the Gay Marriage bill will become law.

They vote tonight. Cross every finger. Turn on the news, check your rss, watch the live feed.

THE BILL HAS PASSED—33x29.

The New York City Gay Pride Parade is Sunday. I want everyone who plans to march in the parade to spend tomorrow going to as many Justices of the Peace as they can, and convincing them to join the parade so that people can get married en route. I want to see marriages taking place on floats. I want the people going to watch the parade to bring flowers and bird seed to throw at the newlyweds.

I want a transporter, so that I could be there.
Come senators, congressmen / please heed the call
don't stand in the doorway / don't block up the hall
for he that gets hurt / will be he who has stalled
there's a battle outside / and it is ragin'
it'll soon shake your windows / And rattle your walls
for the times / they are a-changin'.
