New York Conservative Party Chair believes the Gay Marriage bill will become law.

They vote tonight. Cross every finger. Turn on the news, check your rss, watch the live feed.

THE BILL HAS PASSED—33x29.

The New York City Gay Pride Parade is Sunday. I want everyone who plans to march in the parade to spend tomorrow going to as many Justices of the Peace as they can, and convincing them to join the parade so that people can get married en route. I want to see marriages taking place on floats. I want the people going to watch the parade to bring flowers and bird seed to throw at the newlyweds.

I want a transporter, so that I could be there.
Come senators, congressmen / please heed the call
don't stand in the doorway / don't block up the hall
for he that gets hurt / will be he who has stalled
there's a battle outside / and it is ragin'
it'll soon shake your windows / And rattle your walls
for the times / they are a-changin'.

Crossing lots of fingers, and I love the idea of people getting married on the march (although -- there's no advance notice or paperwork needed?)!

there's no advance notice or paperwork needed?

There were people getting married at City Hall in San Francisco the day after the mayor said they could marry.

UPDATE: Republican Senator chooses to vote Yea; the bill's passage is now assured.

It'll take up to 30 days for them to start marrying ppl, according to the news type people.

"Mr. Cuomo was expected to sign the measure soon, and the law will go into effect 30 days later, meaning that same-sex couples could begin marrying in New York by midsummer."

Ah, well.

I still expect to see a lot of bride/bride and groom/groom costumes in the parades this weekend!

Oh, heck, yes!

And besides, they need time to prep all the weddings. Parties don't cater themselvs! ;)

I AM FINALLY SO PROUD OF MY STATE!

I live in Florida.

I am constantly, ridiculously, continually ashamed of my state.

Seriously, we elected Rick Scott.

I just don't even.

I went and checked out your journal after reading this comment; you seem like a pretty amazing human being. I'd like to add you to my flist. Mind adding me back?

Let me know.

With flattery like that, how can I resist?

Besides, you read [livejournal.com profile] tzikeh and XKCD, so you clearly have excellent taste. :)

By the way, 80-90% of my posts are unlocked fluffy pop culture posts. My locked posts tend to be better stuff, imo. Welcome!

Your LJ appears to be empty though... do you write here, or just read/comment?

I'm sorry about that. I've OCD, and when I start allowing comments I get obsessed over finding patterns, making sure that there are the "right number" of comments there, and so on; consequently, the only way for me to post is to ban comments. But, as you can see, my OCD does, thankfully, allow me to post in other peoples' journals.

Fair enough. I look forward to interacting through future comments.

For what it's worth, I've got a *touch* of OCD myself. It usually takes me a little bit longer to leave the house than I'd like as a result.

Hate to rain on your parade, that was the amendment they voted on. Voting on the main bill will happen just as soon as the honorable gentleman from the Bronx shuts up.

(I need a "straight but not narrow" icon or something.) (Not that I like the word "straight" anyway, because it implies homosexuality is deviance...but you know what I mean.)

By saying only some people can have legal and civil benefits, we are creating a second class of citizens. Once you do that, it's very easy to start seeing them as not human and to deny them other rights. The struggle for GLBT rights is not just a gay issue, it's a HUMANS issue. And if you truly believe in what's written in the US Declaration of Independence, that all men are created equal**, you should be speaking up.

**Of course, when the D of I was written, Jefferson meant "all white Protestant men." Today, though, we should be treating it in the modern sense of "all people."

Yup, that last line was being reinforced by a number of Dem senators in the statehouse, including Tom Duane who's pointed out all the other pro-LGBT legislation that's passed into NYS law.
