First of all, I am so happy that my show is back, and my evil horrible no-good very-bad doctor is still evil and horrible and no-good and very bad. There will be no softening of the bastard, thank you very much.

Okay - let's jump right into House and Wilson's relationship first, shall we?

Wilson, you poor miserable fucked-up guy. The scene between them in this episode could not have been about more things if it tried. Wilson is giving House advice on how to properly go about using his ex-girlfriend. He knows it's a terrible thing to do, and he has a bad taste in his mouth about it - you see that on his face, but you *also* see that this *is* a "bros before hos" moment for him (and whoever it is out there in lj-land who has the House/Wilson 'bros before hos' icon -- are you DYING WITH LAUGHTER right now?). He's in there, even though he's clearly good friends with Stacy, betraying that friendship because his friendship with House is what makes his world go 'round. And House, in return, offers up potato chips. Is this a classic snapshot of their friendship, or what? Though if House's goofy-ass "bros before hos, *maaan*" and the Wonder-Twin Fist offering brings about *that smile* on Wilson's face, I say put it in every week.

And Wilson, oh Wilson - you got too close to a patient once. ::puts ear to the internet:: I hear fanfic being written in the distance....

Cameron - you almost *had me*, baby! I was with her, I really was, when she stood up to House not once, not twice, but several times in the episode, and finally both a) jumped on the "I'm over you; I hate you" train *and* demanded he face his own hypocricy, I thought "My God, girl, don't make me *like* you!" And then she had to go and get all Cameron again. Weepy, self-absorbed, touchy-feely-girly "My dead husband and my whininess inform all aspects of my life -- and did I meantion my dead husband?" She almost vaulted over the Curse of Lana Lang, but she did *not* stick the the dismount. Quelle tragedie.

Foreman - way to go with the character development! Foreman is the one who does all the heavy lifting on the "learn and grow" portion of the episodes, and yet he never grates on me the way Cameron does. Maybe because he's a person and not a caricature of a teenage girl. Go figure.

[An aside. Some people feel that the character of House is racist, or that the show is somehow racist, or ... that it makes incorrect jokes or uses racially insensitive language, but frankly I find this show gives the viewer lots to chew on about race and class without beating us over the head with a public service announcement. ::Is now picturing Gregory House doing a "The More You Know" ad... that can't end well:: The thing is, there's an essay in here about the double-layer joke (c.f. South Park) which I don't have the mental acuity to write; if someone else knows what I'm talking about and wants to bash away on the keyboard, please do and let me know.]

Chase and Cuddy didn't have much to do this time around (though we got a pretty mouth and "partypants"), and I think House is going to have *too much fun* with Cuddy's assistant. As for Stacy - well, the verdict's still out, though she and House have terrific and layered chemistry when they're on-screen together.

Mostly, I'm just so glad to see that the main character in a top-ten drama is still a fucking asshole. God be praised.

In conclusion: Ruh-roh!

Ruh-roh!

(we could have a whole thread with nothing but "ruh-roh!" and I'd still be laughing at the end of it. *g*)

I took great personal pleasure in imagining the Americans in the cast trying to explain "Ruh-roh!"'s meaning to Hugh Laurie. "He's a what now? And he solves *crimes*?"

I like the House - Stacy vibe. "Worst two dollars I ever spent." I like it the way it is, with her still happily with Mark, thank you.

And Cameron has some sort of deep psychological problem - I think she's more fucked up than House is.

Ah, but don't forget the words of Eddie Izzard - Scooby Doo is *international currency*.

Ah, is he? I was so traumatized by being the only person in a Glasgow comedy club to laugh at a Gilligan's Island reference by an American comedian, it has shaped my whole worldview!

I have no point here, I just like saying "we need to kill more white people".

That is all.

I'm deeply passionately anti-death-penalty, and even I loved that line. But good lord, does every show in the universe have to use Hallelujah?

I find this show gives the viewer lots to chew on about race and class without beating us over the head with a public service announcement.

Yeah. I am too tired to be coherent. It's just... "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist", and on House, the main character is an asshole and people have warts.

OMG I hadn't thought of it that way, but.. kind of? I need to ponder and sleep and then come back to this.

Of course, now I'm just picturing House humming, "The Internet Is for Porn."

He knows it's a terrible thing to do
I do not quite understand this. Wilson did not seem to be particularly bitter or upset about saying that people are needed for advancement in one's life. The fact that he can say that without flinching is very telling about the character. He would need a good understanding of human nature to get to his current position in life, and most likely part of how he got there was by using people. This could, and was, as benign as finding a woman to marry - part of his position in life is being married. He knows how to work people and is giving that knowledge to House so he can use them as well.

House, for all his brilliance, does not understand other people as well as Wilson does. So Wilson is helping him. It is not terrible - simply helping a friend out by giving advice.

I was so happy that House still had his punch. I died of rolling my eyes during the "bros before hoes" scene as much as I love House/Wilson.

I *heart* Foreman. I'm actually writing a Foreman/House fic per request, and I'm definitely having problems balancing the double-layer joke. I did die of laughter at the "we need to kill more white people" line.

Bros before Hos! *snerk*

So, yeap, wordy mc word. I'm glad to see House back to his old tricks and House is finally back on my tv screen.

(and, just so you know, I'm a new person who started lurking around because of House and all the politics just sealed the deal;-)

I was just thinking this morning how much I really *love* the way the show pulls race out and puts it on the table. But it's also wholly consistent with the characters -- House pulls *everything* out and puts it on the table, that's one reason he unsettles people.

My guilty thrill of the episode was, "I could've hit that." Somehow, coming from him -- said in an almost thoughtful tone, and being the absolute truth -- it didn't tick me off the way it might've in some other context.

I had no guilt whatsoever in enjoying the "I could've hit that" line. That was classic House from top to bottom. Look at them putting all this racial/class grit in a season premiere! Holy crap!

People, this is what you're getting: a bunch of incredible actors doing what they do best, the best one-liners, a total train wreck of a lead character and - we're sorry - one chick in a purple shirt. But just ignore her.
