My icon doesn't do justice to JUST HOW EXCITED I AM.

From today's Mac announcement, we learn

1) Yes, there is now an iPod that plays video!, and
2) You will be able to buy TV shows from iTunes Music Store. $1.99 per episode.

Let me repeat that.

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BUY TV SHOWS FROM iTUNES MUSIC STORE FOR $2 AN EPISODE.

...

First the newsmedia wakes up, then indictments start coming down, and now a la carte tv? IS SATAN LACING UP HIS ICE SKATES???

Now we just have to wait for DVDJohn to come up with a way to...... let us clip them up, out, apart, and remix! :)

You've got to hand it to Steve. He keeps finding a way to help tame the savage RIAA/MPAA and make media available to the common man.

I have the site up because I've been obsessively refreshing and so I got to it before it bowed under the load. My coworker is not so lucky and has the non-loading page. I impressed upon him the importance of our powerball tickets winning big tonight. (And barring that, I offered to sell him my old iPod.)

PHWOAR.

So, I can buy every episode of "Alias," suitable for watching on my computer (and a video iPod should I desire one), for just $2 apiece.

Oh, my cup runneth over.

$44 a year is exactly what I said I'd pay for a season of tv lo these many years ago in [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's living room - and here it is!

Hurray!

Stock is down on the news but, that is typical. Wait 'til the sales start to register. I could retire!

Correction: people in the US will be able to buy TV shows from the iTunes Music Store. Some other countries still don't have an iTunes Music Store. Not that I'm BITTER or anyting. :-/

I was just thinking that - we're standing at the beginning of a true paradigm shift in media. I think I've been waiting my entire adult life for this.

Geoff: Boy, are you in trouble.

I'll wait until there's a bigger stock of shows available, but let's hope this is the thin edge of an awfully big wedge . . .

The moment the other networks see the kind of revenue ABC generates? They'd chew ground glass and climb over the dead bodies of their grandmothers to get on the bandwagon with this.

What I find interesting is that Disney is the primary non-music video content provider. With the exception of Walt himself and his early adoption of television to promote Disneyland, the company has been notoriously slow to embrace shifts in media; they were one of the last (if not the last) conglomerates to start building a DVD catalogue.

Maybe they learned. I hope I hope.
