Saw The Matador today - What I enjoyed most was that Pierce Brosnan got to stretch an awful lot and play some goofy comedy and internal tragedy, not the usual suave and sophisticated. He was foul-mouthed, bony and paunchy, goofy, and willing to do stuff most men who are known for their good looks would never do.

I always enjoy Greg Kinnear, and he doesn't let me down here, though the role isn't exactly challenging. He does show how easy it would be to get giddily caught up in the "romance" of being friends with a hit-man, without realizing what he's really in for, and then we see him go back and forth on it through the rest of the film.

Hope Davis, as usual, is spot-on. Most underrated actress today. She, too, shows that giddiness and starry-eyed wonder at actually *hosting a killer in her home*. Underused in the film, but perfect when she's in a scene.

The movie itself is hilarious and entertaining most of the way through, and then we get a last act which veers into "I don't quite buy this" territory. But I didn't mind, because A) I got to see Pierce Brosnan in both a black banana-hammock swimsuit and a cheerleader outfit and B) OMG OT3 Julian/Danny/Bean!! I so want Danny and Bean to go find Julian in Greece and move in with him. Someone should write this for me. Yes.

Heh, my reaction exactly! My husband remarked that he was *sure* something they didn't show happened in that hotel room scene.

And, yeah, Pierce Brosnan - I had NO idea he had it in him to play the utterly sleazy Julian!

Had the same thought about the hotel room. EEEEE.

I knew he had it in him. I've just been waiting and waiting and waiting...
