Livejournal, Greatestjournal, and ads.

I long ago created a journal over at greatestjournal, but have never used it. So, if fandom has some kind of mass emigration to greatestjournal, you can find me at http://tzikeh.greatestjournal.com.

However. From the post about the ads:

• Paid users won't see ads -- if you're logged in as a paid user, you won't see ads, anywhere, even on a journal of a user that has enabled ads.
  
• Paid journals won't have ads -- anybody looking at any part of a paid user's journal won't see ads, logged in or not.
  
• The new level with ads is opt-in -- we won't throw ads on your journal without you switching to the new level.

Unless I'm way mistaken, most fans have paid journals, if just for the icons. Plus, it appears to be optional. So, I'm not sure what the fuss is about.

Ah, this is about a planned outage that could result in the Great LJ Blackout of 2006 like the last one. Never mind. :)

And man, that'll suck for people wanting to go nuts over tonight's BSG finale...

As far as I know, it has nothing to do with that, especially since GJ has ads. *g* It appears to be a stopgap, so that if something horrible happens during the upgrade (like we lose LJ for a day or something) we have a back-up place to connect.

I don't think all the greatestjournal talk has anything to do with ads. LJ has a planned shut down tonight for at least part of a two hour window (from 10:00 p.m. PST) and people are freaking out a little.

But yes...I agree with you about the ads. I think. :)

Although for those of us with other commitments tonight, it's rather a relief :-) And everyone can write up long, thinky posts to put up when LJ is happy again.
