The Peabody Awards

Many of you may have already seen this posted at melina123's lj, but it bears repeating.

The 65th Annual Peabody Awards were announced today. The Peabodys are the most prestigious awards given for television. You can see a complete list of the winners here (lots of Hurricane Katrina coverage), but I really have to bring you the highlights of my day:

House

An unorthodox lead character – a misanthropic diagnostician fond of saying humanity is "overrated" – and cases fit for a medical Sherlock Holmes have helped make "House" the most distinctive new doctor drama in a decade.

South Park

Primitive animation is part of the charm of TV's boldest, most politically incorrect satirical series. Its simple style also makes possible the show's unmatched topicality.

Battlestar Galactica

A belated, brilliantly re-imagined revival of a so-so 1970s outer-space saga, the series about imperiled survivors of a besieged planet has revitalized sci-fi television with its parallax considerations of politics, religion, sex, even what it means to be "human."

Yes, as melina123 says, Peabody Award-winning Sci Fi Channel, the folks who brought you Mansquito.

OMG BSG. Seriously? Go rent/buy season 1 and then rent/buy the first half of season 2 and then download the rest of season 2 and GET ON THE STICK, WOMAN! Because you are missing the finest, best-written, best-acted, most thinky hour of tv this year. And that includes House.
