I occasionally feel the need to go off on a political rant, but I know that a lot of readers here either a) do not agree with my politics, or b) just don't care to read liberal screed vent posts. So, after four years of on-and-off debate, I have created
politzikes for my sporadic super-duper-lefty news updates, comments, and ramblings.
There's nothing there right now, but Lord knows there's *plenty* that will be, especially as we count down to the Midterms. Feel no obligation to friend, as usual. ;)
So - back to fandom: I tried to watch the pilot of Heroes, wound up putting it aside (not for quality issues - just for time constraints), tried again, same issue - but now I have downloaded 1-3 and plan to watch them this weekend. Fannish joy on my flist has pushed me over the edge into "okay, *must* make time for this show." I had it on my "To watch" list from the first time I heard about it; I'm looking forward to adding another Season Pass (sigh). I feel ungrateful complaining about too much good tv, but after living through the eighties and early-to-mid nineties, I should be on my knees to the Gods of Television.
OH! Speaking of the TV Gods - my friends J & P bought me a small icon of St. Clare - patron saint of television!
♥
ETA OMG it glows in the dark!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

"St. Clare of Assisi was named patron of television because one Christmas when she was too ill to leave her bed she saw and heard Christmas Mass -- even though it was taking place miles away."

Date: 2006-10-10 11:00 pm (UTC)She's one of the niftier saints. My dad used to read me Butler's Lives of the Saints as a bedtime story, until my mother overheard just how much blood, sex and violence was in those stories and put a stop to it.

Date: 2006-10-10 11:06 pm (UTC)I once won a bar bet with a priest, who had no idea there was a patron saint of television. St. Clare should also be the patron saint of flat screen and plasma tv's. I'm just sayin'...
St. Clare!

Re: St. Clare!
Date: 2006-10-11 12:02 pm (UTC)I think I'm the same type of Jewish non-Jew you are! The only thing I identify with culturally is a nice corned beef sandwich on rye or a nice bagel with cream cheese and nova or sturgeon. Mmmm...bagel (said like a Jewish Homer Simpson)
Well, I'm hungry now. Must go eat.

Date: 2006-10-10 11:41 pm (UTC)Yay, on account of how you're right on this point; I pretty much can't stand politics in my fannish happy place, and as the election grows closer, it will become more difficult to keep reading some journals where those posts are a prominent feature. So I truly appreciate it. Thanks. :)

Hmm.
