tzikeh: (yay!)

I occasionally feel the need to go off on a political rant, but I know that a lot of readers here either a) do not agree with my politics, or b) just don't care to read liberal screed vent posts. So, after four years of on-and-off debate, I have created [livejournal.com profile] politzikes for my sporadic super-duper-lefty news updates, comments, and ramblings.

There's nothing there right now, but Lord knows there's *plenty* that will be, especially as we count down to the Midterms. Feel no obligation to friend, as usual. ;)

So - back to fandom: I tried to watch the pilot of Heroes, wound up putting it aside (not for quality issues - just for time constraints), tried again, same issue - but now I have downloaded 1-3 and plan to watch them this weekend. Fannish joy on my flist has pushed me over the edge into "okay, *must* make time for this show." I had it on my "To watch" list from the first time I heard about it; I'm looking forward to adding another Season Pass (sigh). I feel ungrateful complaining about too much good tv, but after living through the eighties and early-to-mid nineties, I should be on my knees to the Gods of Television.

OH! Speaking of the TV Gods - my friends J & P bought me a small icon of St. Clare - patron saint of television!
"St. Clare of Assisi was named patron of television because one Christmas when she was too ill to leave her bed she saw and heard Christmas Mass -- even though it was taking place miles away."

ETA OMG it glows in the dark!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

OMG ST. CLARE!
She's one of the niftier saints. My dad used to read me Butler's Lives of the Saints as a bedtime story, until my mother overheard just how much blood, sex and violence was in those stories and put a stop to it.

Hey, you know I work on a TV show, right? Well, we carry a St. Clare prayer card and a St. Gabriel (the patron saint of television workers, seriously, I'm not making this up) with us in our set box. I also have a St. Clare icon on my desk (and I'm a lapsed Jew!)

I once won a bar bet with a priest, who had no idea there was a patron saint of television. St. Clare should also be the patron saint of flat screen and plasma tv's. I'm just sayin'...

St. Clare!

Yes, I do in fact know you work on a tv show. ;) And I'm a lapsed Jew too! Well, not even lapsed; I was never a believer-type Jew in the first place; just happen to be of Jewish descent.

I guess I'm Barechu, non-Hebrew, tzikeh, the Half-a-Jew!

I think I'm the same type of Jewish non-Jew you are! The only thing I identify with culturally is a nice corned beef sandwich on rye or a nice bagel with cream cheese and nova or sturgeon. Mmmm...bagel (said like a Jewish Homer Simpson)

Well, I'm hungry now. Must go eat.

Yay, on account of how you're right on this point; I pretty much can't stand politics in my fannish happy place, and as the election grows closer, it will become more difficult to keep reading some journals where those posts are a prominent feature. So I truly appreciate it. Thanks. :)

You're welcome. I know you're not the only one, but your the kind of pal I did it for.

Very cool. I actually have a small St. Clare statue (I'm a media prof remember in a Catholic college) but she's painted and doesn't glow in the dark.

Actually, might you mention here when you've started posting there? I like a good liberal rant now and then, but I feel weird friending an empty journal. Thanks!

Uh... any particular reason why?

I've been friended by people who don't post at all. I can't bring myself to friend them back. Guess I'm just touchy that way...

You realize that now you have to make an icon of your icon.

*snrk*

I wonder if there are any photographic tricks to photographing things that glow in the dark. The glowsticks at Club Vivid *never* show up in photos.

Hmm.
