So, how was your night?
Nov. 8th, 2006 02:39 pmFor some reason, these 21 seconds have been going through my head over and over for the past 24 hours.
ETA: Okay,
shrift just left me two voicemails on my cell. One says something like "Rumsfeld just resigned, great day in the morning - kegs." And the other one says something like "Called [either Montana or Virginia I can't remember what she said] for [Democrat of said state] and Hastert just stepped down bagels more kegs". Or something along those lines.
Remember yesterday when I posted that I slept for 20 hours?
I'm not still sleeping, right? This is really happening, right? This isn't (as Toby would say) one of your funny, funny jokes?

Date: 2006-11-08 09:22 pm (UTC)Here, have a link to my ongoing commentary on the Bush press conference announcing Rumsfield's resignation as it happened, and here's another one that includes the link to the official transcript, plus notes on two other conferences-- McCain and Bush-Rumsfield-Gates (Gates being the proposed successor).

Date: 2006-11-08 09:25 pm (UTC)Democrats have taken the House. Democrats are taking the Senate if the vote counts hold in Montana and Virginia. Rumsfeld has stepped down and been replaced by the head of the CIA. Hastert has stepped down. The majority of governors elected are Democrats. A Democrat even took Tom DeLay's old seat in Texas.
Not a joke.

I think I have to go sit down. Oh, wait - I am sitting down. Maybe I should lie down.

Date: 2006-11-08 09:27 pm (UTC)Are you sure that wasn't "Great day in the morning-cakes"? Unless you're suggesting a kegger, which I can also get behind. *g*
YAY! I hadn't heard about Hastert. Whee!
I am currently listening to a co-worker trying to explain the US Government--the basic stuff, like the House and Senate make up the Congress to one of our 20-something co-workers. It's making me cry.

Date: 2006-11-08 10:33 pm (UTC)heh -- this made me think of my kidlet's current favorite Schoolhouse Rock song:
...Talkin' about the government and how it's arranged,
Divided in three like a circus.
Ring one, Executive,
Two is Legislative, that's Congress.
Ring three, Judiciary.
See it's kind of like my circus, circus.....

Date: 2006-11-08 10:39 pm (UTC)See, and I was just thinking that kids today don't even have Schoolhouse Rock! How much did I learn--or was able to retain--from Schoolhouse Rock?! It's sad.
"I'm just a bill, just a lonely old bill..."

Date: 2006-11-08 10:58 pm (UTC)That's where I learned the word "Interjection" (and I've since remembered the above refrain for what, 30 years ? Heh.)
The complete Schoolhouse Rock DVD set was one of the first DVDs I bought (for my kidlet (of course. really!), and she's grown up with them (as have a bunch of her friends.
