The LJ Wish List of Memage
Dec. 7th, 2006 03:05 pmMake a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
If you wish for real life things (not stories or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not—it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Even if you have no intention of giving anything, it's still a fun read. ;)
No time, no money:
For me:
1) internet hugs
2) real hugs, if you see me
3) a smile, if you see me
4) kind words, if you see me online or in person
5) an invitation to a movie, or to dinner, or to visit you at your place, if you live near me.
Not for me:
6) give a moment of kindness to anyone at all in your physical world, especially when your first instinct is to ignore them, or roll your eyes, or pretend they don't exist, even if you are busy, or late, and they are annoying (dangerous-looking people don't count).
7) keep your promises.
8) count to ten.
9) hope to be cheerful if you can, and if you can't be cheerful, ask for love or advice or sympathy. There is a lot of all of that around.
10) say yes to new experiences.
Some time; no money:
1) Write some Adama/Roslin or House/Wilson or Scrubs or Deadwood or Dexter or How I Met Your Mother fiction for me. Oh plz oh plz.
Find me on chat (see my lj user info for all my available chat programs and names) and set up some time to:
2) Teach me how to make really cool lj icons beyond my level of Photoshop knowledge. Those kick-ass icons of mini-movies would be awesome – also those amazingly saturated and interesting colors.
3) Teach me a bit of Photoshop in general beyond my level of Photoshop knowledge.
4) Walk me through del.icio.us (this may take a bit of time because I have a lot of questions).
5) Teach me (macintosh OS X vidding people) how to convert a full FCP vid into a fabulous looking DivX vid for upload.
6) Teach me about ID3 codes in iTunes (starting with wtf are they).
7) Tell me the truth about anything about me, or our relationship, even if you think that I will take it badly. I never track IPs, so you can do this anonymously if you choose. At this point in my life I need to hear the truth in order to fold it into the mix of what I'm working on, and I'm in a place where I can hear it without wigging out at anyone. (Uh, and, "the truth" doesn't all have to be "constructive criticism" *cough*. Happy truths are good too. But I honestly do welcome anything.)
8) Teach me how to change my lj from S1 to S2; and then teach me all about tags (I feel so 2003!).
9) Teach me how to move all my "compilations" out of "compilations" and into the main iTunes library without iTunes putting big exclamation points next to each track and losing all of them.
10) Give me some tips and tricks for how to get more money for school besides the standard Stafford loan.
Some money:
1) Anything from my Amazon Wish List (I've just recently updated it, and will likely be updating more today.) Don't buy it from Amazon if you can find it cheaper elsewhere. (Stupid Amazon.) If you don't see it on my wishlist but think that I would like it anyway, ask (my take on gifts is that they don't have to be surprises, and since I don't celebrate any particular holiday, they don't have to be "on time".)
2) The Dirt Devil Quick Power M0915X. The official website listing is, of course, more expensive than can be found elsewhere, but this is the model that Consumer Reports recommends.
3) A spindle of 100 of these.
4) This external drive.
5) Harry and David's Fruit of the Month Club.
6) This necklace and these earrings. Seriously – I *never* wear jewelry – but I would wear these EVERY SINGLE DAY.
7) This backpack, in Stem Green.
8) A year's membership in either the iGo or Zipcar program in Chicago.
9) Gift certificates from:
L.L. Bean.
Flax.
The Territory Ahead.
Title Nine.
And of course, money for iTunes is always, always welcome. ;).
10) This umbrella.
A shitload of money and possibly being brought up on kidnapping charges:
1) Hugh Jackman. Or Hugh Laurie. I'm not picky about my Hughs.
2) This portable iPod dock so that I can get back to teaching private ballroom classes.
2) My tuition for Spring Semester ($2,800).
3) Three months of weight training and cardio training ($3,000)
4) A piano.
5) Gary Oldman.
6) The 17" MacBook Pro, as souped up as it can get.
7) This Air Bed.
8) The Vera Wang mattress that
9) A private dinner with the entire cast of Battlestar Galactica.
10) Tempurpedic overlay – Queen size. The price at the official site is INSANE, but I bet it can be found for much less with savvy shopping. (Of course, this is in the "insane" amounts of money section, but it's fun to look. *g*)
You can contact me at tzikeh oot thechicagoloop deet net.
And ibidih ibidih ibidih that's all, folks!
ETA: - Okay, that's not *quite* all. Is someone out there memory-ing wish lists so that we can browse through them without going back a gazillion posts on lj?
