I cannot read a recap for House without yelling at the recapper.

She's bought into the whole "House is addicted to painkillers so he should not take them" thing. And that's so amazingly, horribly, *cruelly* wrong I can't take it.

If he does NOT take painkillers, he cannot function, as he proved in that last episode - and when he does, he does not get high. He gets high from LSD; he gets high from pot. He does not get high from Vicodin. Why? Because all it does is dull his pain enough that he can think about something else. It probably doesn't even do more than make it barely tolerable.

He has to be a safer driver on Vicodin than he is off of it.

As for the cutting thing - maybe it's from that first episode when they made him stop taking his medication and, just to *distract himself from the pain*, he broke his own hand.

I can't imagine that cuts from a razor blade could even come close to that level of pain, even if he'd do it for that reason. As for other reasons for cutting - House is not and never was a teen-age girl. It's amazingly rare to find a cutter who is not a teen-age girl, or who didn't start doing it AS a teen-age girl.

(I wouldn't lay odds about Cameron or Chase...)

I almost never read House fic -- I'm not a huge fan of the show (and I'm not into House/Wilson, TEH HORRORZ), but there was a time when my teeny-tiny fandom was producing no new fic, and I got desperate.

And, um, yeah. There is Chase-is-a-cutter fic everywhere. So bad. So very, very bad. *still traumatised... possibly traumatised enough to start cutting!*

Possibly I should've read fic by people who can actually write, but, well, I was lazy desperate.

Oh, God, why why why would you go there? I lurk on the fanfic thread in case I get mentioned for recs, and even I know better than to get any closer. This fandom is crazy! I've never known a show that was so much better when enjoyed alone, well away from all other fen. Except maybe the sane ones.

I was much more cautious coming into House fandom, only friending people who seemed sane (where values of sane include 'have opinions similar to mine' and 'write consistently well'). A few of my choices are backfiring on me, but all in all I think I've found some good folk. As I recall, I friended you for this picture of naked!Hugh Laurie you had back in the day (see icon). If that doesn't demonstrate sanity, I don't know what does.
