From [livejournal.com profile] _bittorrent:
The HD-DVD has been cracked, and high definition content is now being distributed freely over BitTorrent. We all knew this would happen sooner or later, looks it was “sooner”. The first HD-DVD to be uploaded to BitTorrent is Serenity, the Firefly movie.
Movie industry people, recording industry people... give up. Seriously. Stop trying to find ways to keep us from doing what we're legally allowed to do anyway, and stop trying to screw us when all we want to do is watch your fucking movie or listen to your fucking music. As iTunes has shown again and again, if you'll just be REASONABLE, we'll happily give you money for content.

It's so appropriate that the first one up is Serenity, because YOU CAN'T STOP THE SIGNAL.

And now, here is my segue into a reminder about the Golden Globes.

Thank you.

For you awards-show freaks like me, don't forget that the Golden Globes airs tonight on NBC at 8 Eastern, 7 Central.

I LOVE that it's Serenity. So perfect. And yeah, I totally agree.

I'm only really interested in the Male Lead in a TV Drama! I'm torn! Hugh Laurie, Michael C. Hall, James Spader. I guess that means that Kiefer'll get it, and I hate him. sigh.

Serenity. Excellent. I love that the cracker has a sense of poetry.

Too bad that'll be lost on the studio execs.

*flails* That. As a friend of mine once said, if you make it economically feasible for people to do the right thing, most of them will do the right thing.

No kidding. Most people, whether these corporate assholes believe it or not, don't *really* want to steal shit. Regardless of *possible* consequences. Just make it reasonable. Don't make us buy a $20 cd if we only want one song. Don't make it impossible to make a backup of a movie we *own*, which the courts have declared legal. Just... don't.

There's an NYT editorial on basically the same thing in today's paper.

Seriously! There will always be hackers, but most of us are lazy enough that we're willing to pay for content if we have fair use of it. Trying to make everyone capitulate to the entertainment industry is never going to work.
