What's a nice fan like you doing in a place like this?

Wow. A bunch of new readers joined my lj in the past few months, but I haven't posted anything that interesting or different recently; I'm curious as to what brought you all here! There are also a large number of long-time readers who are not commenters, which is *totally fine with me* (lurkers are the new Silent Majority, I suspect), but I'd still love to know just a little about you, and why you read my random collection of announcements and links and one-line reactions to stuff.

I know when I subscribe to an lj, it's most often because of a single reason - they're into fandom I love, or they're a fanfiction writer, or they post terrific meta on vids, or they're a friend in meatspace, or whatever. (Of course, this can develop over time into something else, but it often starts this way.) I have no single fandom, don't write fanfiction (mostly), am not that much of an essayist, and often post about things only tangentially related, or totally UNrelated, to the fannish world.

I admit it; I'm curious! (In several ways!) So, if you care to, please drop a comment here about yourself and what brought you over to my neck of the woods. If you don't want to be identified, that's okay too -- I never track IP addresses, so you can sign out and post a comment anonymously.

Hallo! I'm mostly about the place for random House squee, and Battlestar Galactica stuff as well--also to point and laugh (just a tad) when you go over to the TWOP discussion friends and every single time come back wailing and knashing your teeth and going all Khan about the whole experience.

Hmm, I also enjoy your links, and that time you had about thirty people show up and comment with their delicious accounts led to some good reading. I dunno. You seem sane. That's really how I separate the wheat from the chaff, as it were. STAMP OF APPROVAL.

Hmm, I think I added your LJ initially to have some broader multi-fannish flavor to my f-list with some movie stuff and interesting links thrown in? IIRC I came across it first when I browsed LJs that the "popular amongst your friends" page turned up.

No, I've neer been really mono-fannish. Even way back when I was only really active in TS fandom on lists, I also read XF, DS and other stuff. But I friend most LJs because I share one or two specific fandoms and the fic and/or meta interests me, and then a few LJs like yours which are more "generally fannish", and also you talk about new US tv series that might be interesting for fans and are about to start, premiere dates and such, which is useful for me, since I'm not in the US and don't see advertising for these things.

For some reason the popular amongst your friends page vanished from the LJ site map, but the function still works (for paid users at least, I'm not sure about others):

I don't remember very well, but I think I enjoyed running across your posts on friendsfriends, and then I think you posted something on Brad Whitford, and I was like, what the hell am I doing? and friended you. You give good meta and good random. And I liked your account of waving at Richard Schiff as he passed you talking on his cell. Hee, I'm laughing just remembering that.

I think I showed up here back in October or November, not entirely sure why, but possibly for some rants. But then you just had interesting things to say, and I was fascinated by your RDH story, and then there was that whole del.icio.us thing, and well, there we are. Oh, and yeah, fandom, too. Yeah, I'm sure there's something there. But yanno? That's what I like about fandom -- there's real people here.

And two other things I like? I love your journal name... average... yep. And I like your icons, but I especially love your Prisoner clue rover. It just makes me giggle every time, because it's just so right.

And that "other intelligent, readable people have you friended" is a phenomenon that I'd like to dig deeper into. I wonder how many people friend others based (not solely, of course) on who *else* has friended them.

I totally judge people based on how people I respect apparently think of them. And it's really easy to just click into someone's info and see who else apparently think highly enough of them to friend them.
