I'm sure it's blasphemous to admit this, being a Chicagoan and all, but I'm just not interested in the Super Bowl. I don't even know which team The Bears are playing, though I *do* know it's the team Stephen Colbert will be rooting for.

For those of you who won't be watching the Super Bowl either, but are looking for a fun alternative other than going out and having a life (hey, I have a real excuse -- Sunday's high temperature is supposed to be a whopping 8 degrees, with a windchill of -17), may I suggest Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl.

Utterly pointless, yet completely mesmerizing, The Puppy Bowl consists of a mock football field, a lot of puppies, puppy toys, and a human who pretends to be a referee. The puppies play with toys, drink water (water bowls are clear with cameras mounted underneath for DrinkCam views), nap, and generally frolic. If a puppy has an accident on the field, the ref calls it a "penalty". If, by some bizarre happenstance, a puppy gets a football into the endzone... something happens. I can't remember what. But I can guarantee that it's adorable.

And the halftime show is ALL KITTENS ALL THE TIME.

Besides, all the good Super Bowl commercials will be up on YouTube a minute after they air. ;)

ETA: And here they are, your 2007 Animal Planet Puppies! Be sure to vote for the MVP.

I'm very excited about Puppy Bowl.

The Bears beat the New Orleans Saints, by the way, so it would not quite be an exaggeration to say that I wish hot fiery death to the Beard (who are playing the Indianappolis Colts). But really, I will be watching Puppy Bowl and not caring about the Super Bowl.
