If I want to post something I really want people to see (not for my sake, but because I think lots and lots of people might enjoy it), when would be the best time to post, I wonder? Hence: dumbest post ever.

**ETA: Just to make this post EVEN DUMBER, I only now realized you have to submit the "I am taking this poll" poll, and then *come back* and take the real poll. *faceplant* TOLD YOU! DUMBEST POST EVER.**

[Poll #919984]

[Poll #919985]

Answers like "Every weekday except Friday" or "Early Saturday mornings before I go engage in *real* life" are why I put the "more in comments" box, so please add comments to the dumbest post ever!

I check it when I get up in the morning, when I'm done with work and in my classroom alone, and then random times throughout the evening. Over the weekend, it's pretty much random.

Random = "every five minutes"

If I'm at home and the computer's on, then the browser is probably up and open to gmail and my flist -- I'm not checking it at every moment, but if I'm home, it's at least fairly easily accessible. I often sit down and read it for 5-10 minutes before wandering off to do something else again.

In the mornings during breakfast, after work around 5 PM, and Saturdays during English class there is no time at which I am not refreshing.

I refresh my flist (well, my default filter) lots and lots, depending on my totally unpredictable work schedule. But why does this matter? If you post something, I will see it the next time I check my flist, whether that's five minutes from post-time or ten hours. (The only exception is when I've been traveling for two weeks or more without Net access, in which case I sometimes only read a bunch of specific people's journals over the period I was gone, rather than scrolling my entire flist back that far. But you're one of those people, anyway.)

Indeed. But let's say I post on a Tuesday morning and several friends I hope will see it don't check their ljs til the evening, and they have a 500 person flist. I know *I* have managed to miss posts by friends just because it was posted two days ago, and I wind up giving up after skip=1020 or whatever.

Plus, I like dumb polls. ;)

Actually (she said with a cough), you'd be surprised how much thought goes into the timing of posting fiction, not just the "don't post on a Saturday morning," but what time of day will get the most people reading. Thing is, my flist is a lot smaller than most (although about twice the size of yours), and I still miss things, because going more than 24 hours without checking can lead to a skip=600.

Right. In fact? It was dumb of me to post this poll on a Saturday morning.

Once again, confirming the "dumbest post ever" title.

Seriously, I don't know how you people with over 100 LJs on your list keep up. I can barely keep up with fifty.

But I have definitely done the over-thinking of "when should I post this vid announcement?", especially because I usually finish vids on weekends. Heh.

Is it sad that I realized me answers come down to, "mostly when I'm at work; any other time hit or miss"?

Yeah, I probably shouldn't tell my boss that, except for the part where he totally knows and IT was looking into why I couldn't access LJ.

I usually have LJ open in a tab if I'm online.

And dude, I can't even figure out how to make a poll on LJ, or do any other cool stuff, so even a semi dumb post of yours, which I hardly think this qualifies, is far a head of me. lol.

BWAH!

Well, if you don't know how to code a poll, there's an lj poll creator that'll do it for you. Or you can learn to code your own if you have a paid account.

My current workplace keeps too close an eye on what everyone does on the computer, plus it's constantly having network issues, so I don't check any LJ from work anymore, leaving me evenings (when I actually get home at a decent hour, anyhow.) And of course weekends depend on whether I'm home or not. I no longer feel this obsessive need to know exactly what's on LJ and what's in my e-mail even when I travel anymore, which I think work is totally to blame for.

Clearly, I am a big 'ol LJ addict, because I check my flist first thing in the morning, even before I check my email. And then I check it again as soon as I come home from work, and then another 3 or 4 times before I go to bed.

On the weekends? I pretty much refresh the page every half hour, because I don't want to risk missing out on anything. (And also because LJ keeps giving me this funky glitch where I have to refresh the page 6 times in a row before showing my entries from the past day. It's very odd.)

I don't think this is a dumb poll, either; I'm sure there are more statistics out there about the posting patterns on LJ.

My mornings and evenings are not your morning and evening times anyway, so I'm not sure how useful specific input would be. *g* Also, if my computer is on (probably longer and more often than is healthy...) I'm likely to check my f-list too. *points to her NetAddict!RatCreature icon*

I spend the most time on LJ during the evening, but I do usually check it in the morning at work to catch up on what has been posted since last night.

A slow day at work means I might be logged in frequently, but my quality LJ time is in the evening.

I usually log in at random times during the weekend, but always Sunday evening (although lately TV is getting in the way of my Sunday night LJ time).

As far as download stats go, Monday and Thursday evenings are very popular.

Yes, I totally should have put in a timezone thingy, too.

When I wake up, I check my email. Then my LJ friends list. Then my RSS aggregator. Then I have breakfast. I have such great priorities.

My weekday: I get up and read my flist before breakfast, then get ready for work. At work, I leave my browser window accessible with my flist all day long, and check it consistently between other tasks. When I get home, I have dinner, then leave LJ open all evening while I watch TV (except for some important shows when I log off) until bed.

My weekend day: I get up and read my flist before breakfast, then wake up my husband and go out usually all day long. After we get home, I leave LJ open all evening while I watch TV until bed. I'm almost never on during full daylight on weekends, except for a quick check.

Obsessed? Moi?

I check my damn friends list incessantly, but I mostly check it on my lunch break at work.
