Over in [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973, I got into a scuffle with [livejournal.com profile] excathedra1895 over the possible American remake of Life on Mars. Not because I give a shit either way, really, but because she was all whiny about how Americans just remake British tv series and then they're "dreadful". "Don't the Americans have any original ideas??????", she asks, with multiple question marks.

Yes, yes, I know, [livejournal.com profile] cereta's porn mantra, but I got caught up in it.

She just called me a "graying 37-year-old", said I probably didn't know what an oxymoron is, and called me "*love*".

Dudes -- check her profile. Be sure to note the photos and photomanipulations and color bars.

*is dying laughing*

I'm just so glad there was no lj, or worldwide web, or any kind of gui when I was twenty. She's damned for all time. I hope I run across her when she's a "graying 37-year-old" and find out if she's learned anything. Ah, youth. Really, with this kind of entertainment, who needs kick the can and mumblety-peg! Get off my lawn! That's just banana oil!

ETA: I've been informed that [livejournal.com profile] excathedra1895 has removed all of the photos and color bars and giant list of everything she "is" (including "old souled", "an anachronism", "elitist", etc.) from her user profile. She sneered at me, I sneered at her, she took her toys and went home. I guess the game's over -- besides, it's dusk, and I hear momma calling me, so I best head to the pump out back and wash up for supper.

Perhaps, despite my doubts, all is not lost when it comes to learning and growing.

I love the "I'm not a Nazi" statement. *eg*

OMG yes, can you imagine having your twenty year old likes and dislikes, rants and raves, passions and bugaboos distributed all over the net and then coming back to haunt you? Thanks very much, but no thanks.

Just... yeah. And you know why she's not a Nazi? BECAUSE AMERICA SAVED HER ANCESTORS'S ASSES FROM THE GERMANS!!!eleventy!!!

And that's why we remake British television shows. BECAUSE WE CAN!

And by "we", of course I am speaking for all 300 million Americans. Because we know that when we say "the Americans" do such and such, it is as one, because we all think exactly alike.

She is also an "old soul".

I mean... just looking at her list of how she defines herself, and she thinks *I* don't know what oxymoron means?

Yeah, much harder to come by, but... wow.

I'm especially fond of the photo she uses on the main page of her lj for "friends only".

I'm sorry - she listens to goth music, and uses that photo on her main lj page, and she still maintains that someone can't be both goth and emo at the same time.

I am very much with the 'who cares' if the American market wants to remake a TV show made in the UK first? It's not like anyone in the UK will be tied to their chairs and forced to watch it.

And I find it very interesting she's going on about Americans not having any original ideas, what with, oh, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Scrubs, The OC, One Tree Hill, Smallville, and many more American televisions shows airing on UK tv every single week.

Yeah, I don't get that either. What the hell does it matter one way or another? It's not like someone's burning all the copies of the original series. I always go to Alan Moore when it comes to that kind of thing; a journalist asked him about the movies made from his graphic novels and pretty much said that the movies "ruined" them. Moore pointed to a bookshelf that had all his work on it and said "No they didn't - they're right there."

Well, we expect of others what we ourselves would do, so...

I'm currently being amused by the fact that her lj is friends-only, yet she posts publicly the names of people she has defriended, and tells them to please remove her from their friendslist.

Is it just my perception, or is it mostly very young people who have "friends-only" livejournals? What, exactly, is the appeal? That you don't have to be held accountable for anything you say and you can be certain that you're surrounded by yes-men?

When I was 20, and living in the UK, an amusing number of my classmates would, like, ask me why it was that Americans didn't understand irony/have a sense of humor/the phrasing varied. And I'd be all, "Do you want me to answer that before or after we all watch Seinfeld this evening?" And once in a great while, they'd get it and I'd be all "PWNED!" If, that is, the word "pwned" had existed at that time, because I am AGED and GREYING and two and a half weeks shy of thirty, so, you know, my life is more or less over.

Off to put on black makeup and get weepy. Cheers!
