Is there a blog or posting board somewhere for opinions, word-of-mouth, etc., about things in Chicago? Like - suggestions for a hair salon that has a stylist who *listens* to the client and colors hair *really well*, or a coffee shop that *doesn't* have music blaring at a level where you have to wear earplugs to do any studying, or a clothing shop that carries somewhat larger sizes than department stores that aren't *fugly*?

And no, I'm NOT thinking about buying chicagowordofmouth.com and learning all about Moveable Type.

Do an "interest" search on the LJ main page. I found a couple of places like chicago_chat that might be helpful. People seem to be asking questions - and I assume they get actual answers.

Do a search under their Ask Chicagoist column...

They tend to focus more on goings on....concerts, events, etc. But occasionally they do stuff about restaurants & other local stuff, cheap hair salons, neighborhood news, politics.

I'll give it a shot - thanks. I don't think that they're likely to have a hair salon of the kind I'm looking for, but coffee houses and clothing stores, probably yeah.
