And now?

Death of telemarketers calling me. Today is the first day you can register with DO NOT CALL, a service which telemarketers are legally bound to check and obey. If your name and number are on that list, they cannot call you ($11,000 fine if they do).

There are certain limits - companies can call you if you have purchased from them in the past 18 months, etc. - but this is a HUGE step in the right direction.

I find this frustrating: I'd love to register, but it's a national thing, and not my nation. We might have gay marriage, but we don't have a list like this.

Soon, maybe. I hope.

On the whole, I wouldn't trade. But I am heartily sick of telemarketers.

I called a friend of mine a few days ago on the phone. The phone was answered with silence. Just as I was wondering whether to say "hello, hello, hello?" she said something - and then apologized, saying it was her tactic against telemarketers.

There are so many of them.

Of course, it's what I have an answering machine for. But it's as bad as pop-up ads on websites.

Oh, true, I should have pointed out that it's U.S.

But you know, I think I'd rather have marriage rights for everyone and deal with the telemarketers, if we're talking even trade. :)

I hope Death gets time-and-a-half. And, really, I can only hope that Fred Phelps is the third.

And just out of curiosity, I went to the Westboro Baptist Church Website (godhatesfags.com) just to see how much they were stroking out. I hate these people with every fiber of my being and couldn't find them more antithetical to everything I was raised to believe was Christian--but, at the same time, I find them more pathetically funny than anything a lot of the time. They have a great headline up there right now, too: "WBC to picket the monstrous sodomite whorehouse masquerading as a nation -- CANADA -- and burn the filthy Maple Leaf flag." So, watch out, Canada!

Oh, thank you so much for posting the link to that! I vaguely remember hearing about that a while back, but I never would have remembered on my own. And now I am registered! No more 8:00 am calls to sell me vacation packages, or they're going down! *g*
