School starts tomorrow, and I can feel myself getting sick. The bit where your throat doesn't hurt, exactly, but it feels *wrong*, and the insides of your ears are a little weird, and you just know it's coming.

CRAP. Frickin' frakkin' CRAP.

Also fuck.

Can't sleep - and not because clowns will eat me either. Way too much to get done before tomorrow.

Fuck.

I've had good results (i.e. noticeably lowered symptoms) from Cold-Eeez gum and lozenges. They put the zinc right where it does some good. Alas, it will make food taste strange for the next hour or two, but worth it!

Yeah - I've got some of that in the medicine cabinet. I expect to be downing it like candy for the day, along with water and orange juice (though yes, you can't really drink orange juice after you use Cold-Eze because blergh).

Sambucol-- elderberry extract-- has good results if you take it before you get symptomatic.

This is a job for salsa! Seriously, I find spicy food, especially salsa or chicken soup with hot sauce and garlic in it, can beat back a cold at this stage.

Yes! Or hot and sour soup. Good for you plus yum.

Vitamin C, Zicam (I swear by the little swabs -- all the benefits of zinc lozenges without the godawful effects on your tastebuds), plenty of fluids, and get some rest! Right now!

Zicam! I have that in the medicine cabinet! I forgot! Yay - that with the cold-eze and water and a regular sleeping schedule might do it - plus tea and chicken soup....

Seconding the Zicam. I use the little tablets, so they're nasty tasting, but they really do work. And tea never hurts. :)

Also - Gargle with warm salt water.

Emer-gen-C -- slam a few of those down. You need to be hydrated, and it might as well have 1000mg of vitamin C + B complex vitamins, too.

And Zycam. It. Works.

That *always* happens to me. If it's sore throat but no cough, and you have a tendency to lose your voice, make sure you don't get any cough drops with menthol in them. I use the Halls Vitamin C drops, though I've heard good things about the Ricola ones, if you can stand the taste. There used to be a Celestial Seasonings Honey-Lemon Chamomile throat drop available, but I haven't seen those for a few years now.
